The truly premium segment of golf equipment remains one of the most intriguing ones to follow, and no one does it quite like XXIO with their Prime and Prime Royal releases. As is the case with XXIO as a whole, the target audience is the more moderate swingers of the golf world who need to maximize stability, forgiveness, speed, and launch. However, Prime and Prime Royal take things to an entirely different level of luxury in the segment.
2023 XXIO Prime Lineup
Although many get hung up on the price, I have always been one to scream from the mountain tops that XXIO does it better than anyone when it comes to the biggest segment of golfers out there, the moderate swingers. Then you add in the luxury aspect of the materials used in Prime, and there is a lot to soak in, even more when you realize that the luxury aspect isn’t just for giggles, it is to utilize materials that remove even more strain from golfers in a segment who benefit from such a thing. Basically, Prime makes things possible performance wise in a way that would otherwise not be as achievable.
The internal design story for the 2023 XXIO Prime goes as such:
“Crafted for golfers who’ve lost some speed overtime but are still looking to add distance and maintain accuracy, this new XXIO Prime delivers,” said Chuck Thiry, Vice President of XXIO. “This innovative design is created with lighter components in the Driver, Fairways, and Hybrids, delivering more MOI for straighter, more powerful distance. To further help with swing speed, we included Weight Plus Technology, which counterbalances and stabilizes the club, creating a more efficient path, more consistent contact, and greater ball speed.”
One of the cool aspects as it pertains to XXIO Prime is that those benefits which the company discusses above are integrated not only into one or two clubs, but an entire lineup. While there are a couple spots which the tech varies, there are many more where it carries over through the entire bag.
First and foremost, Rebound Frame is here. This has become a lynchpin technology from Srixon and XXIO for good reason and its application in clubs here (driver, fairway, hybrid, iron) within the Prime lineup aimed at moderate swings gives further credence to just how effective it is for all golfers. Rebound is a multi-layer flex and rigidity concept which is not only more efficient at transferring energy at impact back to the ball without as much loss, but it also expands the entire sweet spot drastically. Rebound Frame is one of the most impressive technological design aspects on the market, from any brand.
Two more features in all clubs within the XXIO Prime offering for 2023 (driver, fairway, hybrid, and iron) is the all new SP-1200 Graphite shafts with elastomer counterweight (2g) in the butt end of the grip. The shaft is a quarter of an inch shorter for more stability and a half-gram lighter than previous, the kicker is by reducing the resin content drastically they have made a more energy efficient and lighter shaft (35g to 46.5g depending on the club type and flex) that has increased the carry and speed potential.
Within the metalwoods (driver, fairway, hybrid) they have implemented ActivWing which uses aerodynamic shaping and ridges to help stabilize the clubheads. However, it specifically brings more stability at the start of the downswing which XXIO has shown tightens the impact pattern, and thus, the dispersion down range as well. This is more stability, without sacrificing speed.
Finally, the driver and iron faces are made up of Super-TIX 51AF Titanium which is one of the lightest and strongest titanium materials being used in golf clubs anywhere. Naturally the strength means the faces can be made thinner, which increases ball speed through more flex, but it also helps add performance on strikes all across the face.
XXIO Prime looks to continue its reign as a no punches pulled technology packed lineup for the golfer who wants performance at any cost. Though many are jumping into the lightweight game, XXIO designs for it from the ground up rather than slapping a lightweight shaft in a standard head, and that is a differentiator worth noting.
But wait, it does in fact get higher end than Prime, it gets Royal.
2023 XXIO Prime Royal Edition
The XXIO Prime Royal Edition lineup is something to behold. You thought the XXIO Prime release was premium, and it is, but this is essentially the niche XXIO line within the XXIO line. You see, Prime Royal last go round was a women’s only option, but this year XXIO is bringing women’s and men’s versions.
Prime Royal, for the most part, utilizes the same technology as XXIO Prime above, with a few differences. One such difference is an even more premium shaft with the SP-1200K with an even more impressively low resin content in them. Beyond that, the most notable difference is the look of bold and in your face premium, essentially luxury driven, looks with gold finishes and detailed etchings throughout. Prime Royal certainly looks like the top percent of the top percent when it comes to XXIO’s target audience.

Gorgeous clubs but lord that’s a pretty Penny.
I don’t find them attractive but the tech seems cool.
XXIO clubs look better in hand than in promotional pictures. You can’t really appreciate them until you see them in person.
There is a very real market for well heeled amateur golfers with low to moderate swing speeds who belong to high end country clubs that are not particularly price sensitive regarding equipment if it provides lots of help to get the ball up in the air and going further.
If it also carries a status component that is just icing on the cake.
I thought that PXG was headed down this path before their apparent U-Turn.
XXIO Prime and Honma Beres are two of the brands that really cater to this market in the US. Even more so in Japan.

Yeah they are fugly.
The woods are too pimp for me, but the irons look kinda classy. Cool technology story behind them, though.
good looking clubs for sure but would make my wallet cry.
Not my look or set up. But don’t hate their existence.
I am sure there is a strong market for golfers who have the funds to splurge on themselves in their later lives and this is a great offering, loaded with tech.
Reminds me of the Honma Beres line – Freaking beautiful stuff. Price is outside of my comfort zone, but I can appreciate a well designed product that performs and looks good!
Just amazing looking, the aesthetics on these are truly top notch
You can see the Srixon lineage in the Prime irons. I want to meet somebody in this target market.
Shiny. Pretty. Sort of. I’d be interested in hitting them but I wouldn’t buy. I’d need generic and crappy looking headcovers because I’d be afraid my woods and driver would walk away.
I would rather put $$ into an AutoFlex shaft.
