ARNE Golf Apparel

Though many in North America may not recognize the name, ARNE Golf has made a small name for itself in the UK, selling attractively priced, simple golf apparel since 2018. The company, created by brothers Reece and Ryan Broadhurst, was born out of the pair’s desire to create “the highest quality, considerably fitted, minimalistic pieces through an honest brand with a brilliant, clearly envisioned aesthetic”. Recently, ARNE expanded its presence to the North American market via its website, with hopes to build brick-and-mortar shops in the near future. We recently took a look at a couple samples from their current line, both a polo and a pair of shorts.

Simple and minimalistic are the first descriptors that come to mind when looking over the ARNE polo. The synthetic material is very lightweight and features pin-prick venting, making it very comfortable for summer wear. While we wouldn’t call it the softest material we’ve felt in hand, it softened up a bit after laundering, however, the texture does lack a bit of the feel we see in some of the premium brands on the market today. Still, this is a shirt that will keep you cool on even the hottest summer days.

The ARNE Golf polo leans solidly towards what many in the US would call a “Euro” fit with slightly squared-off shoulders, tight (but, interestingly, full length) sleeves, shorter overall length, and a narrower midsection. Though the company recommends choosing your normal size, we feel (for those used to sizing of most US brands) that sizing up would probably be the more comfortable option for all but the flattest bellies. The two-button placket and collar also give off a little Euro flair that we loved, though there isn’t a lot of structure there.

ARNE Technical Tailored Shorts

  • Designed to be slim fit
  • Fits true to size, take your normal size
  • Simple, sport inspired design
  • Tailored waistband with elasticated side sections
  • Centre front zip fastening with button and hook & bar closure
  • 5 belt loops
  • Slash side entry pockets at each hip
  • Concealed zip pockets
  • Two back welt pockets
  • Stitched short hemline with side split
  • Four-way stretch lightweight ripstop nylon fabrication
  • 87% Polyamide, 13% Elastane
  • $55 (currently on sale for $35)

Pairing nicely with the polo, ARNE’s Technical Tailored Shorts have a number of features that make them quite attractive, especially considering the price. While the shorts still maintain the slim-fit theme, the stretchy material and size split at the hemline does give them a bit more leeway in comfort and fit. They seem to run a shade smaller than we might expect in the US, but many will still be fine going with their normal size. Sitting just above the knee, the length is neither too short nor too long.

The stretchy material also seems to mirror that of the polo we sampled in that it functions well in heat, while also being a little stiff to the touch. It’s hard to describe feel with words, but whereas some of the more high-end brands may feel smooth or luxurious to the touch, the ARNE shorts are a bit rougher. We love the design and fit, but hope future iterations improve on this a bit.

Though they are decidedly not “cargo” shorts, ARNE has smartly managed to pack their shorts with six discreet pockets. Next to each side pocket is a smaller, zippered pocket that worked well to secure valuables. In addition, the back pockets are both zippered, giving peace of mind that your wallet or phone will stay firmly in place during the round.

Available at arneclo.com, ARNE’s collection of golf apparel is priced on the low end of what we’ve come to expect in the US, which should make many consumers happy. This is a brand for the golfer that likes to look neat and understated on both the first tee and the dining room. Share your thoughts on the ARNE Golf collection on our forums!
