Off Course is back this week with a fantastic show and this is episode 192. Hosted by Dan Edwards, each Friday he gives you a deep look into the world of golf and equipment in a way unlike any other podcast has done before. Today, Jason Finley from Callaway Golf joins the show to dive into everything you want to know about the new Chrome Soft and Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.
It wouldn’t be Off Course without some tangents, but Dan and Jason breakdown how you improve a really good golf ball and dive into finding the middle man with Chrome Tour. This show has a lot going on and is one you will not want to miss as Jason Finley goes Off Course.
Episode 192 is here and Dan and Jason discuss the following topics.
Finding the Middle Man – Chrome Tour
Changing the Core and the Cover
Tour Adoption and Feedback
Fluid Dynamics and a Variety of Aero
And so much more

Oh I love surprises like this. Off course a day early. Nice I have a drive this morning. I’ll be tuning in.
Gotta listen now to @JasonFinleyCG ???
Well ok…nice surprise today!
@JasonFinleyCG just started and love the honesty on the why not more options… most golfers will sit there and say they do not notice a difference in golf balls… I have definitely said this in the past.
A day early? Yep you know this one is teed up already! Let’s go!!!
I will definitely be listening to this later today. I am very interested to hear from my Dream Foursome partner Jason Finley about Callaway’s new golf balls.
Love the comment on the white box.
“What’s this?”
“I don’t know, you tell me.”
Whoa, nice Thursday surprise there! Off to listen now.

Hey Dan,
You hinted at Off Course being a TV/Zoom show, any chance of that is still happening?
Wooo! @Canadan and @JasonFinleyCG on the podcast.
@JasonFinleyCG came out spicy ?
Good conversation so far. Interesting talk about the LS ball
I’m going to listen to this one at the gym later. Having Dan’s soothing voice in my ear talking about balls sounds like a good time.
Seriously though the 2024 ball releases are great and I want as much info as possible. From what little I’ve played of the Chrome Tour I like it. Got a bit of a softer feel and still performs well around the greens. There is not a lot to dislike about it so far.
Interesting that the Chrome Soft flies higher than the Chrome Tour X
I’m here for throwing in hockey sticks
Hi @JasonFinleyCG . Good to hear from you.
@JasonFinleyCG would like to thank Callaway for sending out a test sleeve before our other orders have arrived.
Great podcast today, thank you both.
Had to stop, but man I’m on the edge of my seat. Darth Finley is out today.
I genuinely enjoy hearing his confidence and banter. This golf ball release is huge.
“We will stick with a name once we’ve found the ball that works”. Hoping that’s the Chrome Tour!
Feelometer – “We don’t have a Feelometer”. A new Finleyism.
Love that he said the “cover is softer on an X ball” than it is on the CT. With that info, and knowing the CTX will spin more I do feel like I’ll like the CTX more than the CT. However, I bought 2doz CTs and 1doz CTXs because I’m gambling on being in play off the tee more consistently with the CT than I would be with the CTX; I do believe the CTX would be longer for me.
Great Podcast!
FINLEEEEEEEYYYYY!
Cannot wait to dive in!
Great discussion!! Thanks @JasonFinleyCG for always taking the time for THP! Excited to see how the Chrome Tour play, and how Callaway will continue to improve!
Made it through half of the conversation and damn I didn’t want to hit pause. So many nuggets of gold in here…
got throught he first 30 mins on the way to work. looking forward to listening to the rest. Always a treat listening to Finely….and Off Course.
Love the Chrome Tour! It’s going to be a great golf year playing that ball.
Finley trash talk out the gate.

Oh this’ll be a good one. I’ll catch it on the way home tonight.
The bit about softer covers actually being able to be more durable is such a great little piece of info that he touched on during our presentation. Love that. Great episode so far!
Excited to get the CT and CTX back out tomorrow in a bit warmer weather.
Listening now.
Tuning in now… and the trash talk from jump. Definitely not a surprise at all…

Just heard that exact line and agree pretty awesome little bit of info right there.
Always a good episode when Finely is on to talk balls.
A lot of really interesting stuff about ball design and SKU and perception management. Always a pleasure to hear Finley talk shop.
Love it. @JasonFinleyCG comes out with guns blazing, then proceeds to drop an hour of knowledge bombs. Great conversation, so much interesting information!
Definitely excited to listen to this…. I was lucky enough to be a white box tester for these Callaway balls and the CT is definitely my gamer for 2024 hands down!
Question for @JasonFinleyCG – how would you differentiate between the Chrome Soft or Chrome Tour being the best fit for a particular golfer? Would it mostly come down to swing speed, higher/lower spin from their swing, etc.? In other words, what things would make you recommend one ball over the other to a golfer?
I absolutely enjoyed this episode. I learned a lot today and confirmed a lot of my personal assumptions today. Great podcast!
I enjoyed learning about the differences in the balls and the factors that affect and define performance.

Finley will be able to dive into this much more but I had a conversation with him about this on the bus. If you are a player who likes to play more bump and run chips/pitches around the greens you’ll be best with the CS. If you are a player looking to get spin and get it up in the air around the greens that’s going to be CT.
After hearing him talk about the feel I’m really tempted to get CTX to see the difference and compare with my CT.
Great off course this week with @JasonFinleyCG . It’s a great listen and I learned a few things about the golf ball and construction with materials that I had not considered previously. It’s also cool to see that Callaway is always learning and listening to put out the best product they can for every level of golfer.
I appreciate the shout out @JasonFinleyCG hope to connect again someday and even the odds a bit..

I would say that all those can have an impact. I would start with feel preference, spin on Iron shots desired, and ball flight.
Always great to hear @JasonFinleyCG
Awsome insight, and love the extra knowledge gained from ball talk with Finley!
So cool to hear the Chrome Tour share a lot of the same characteristics as the ChromeSoft X• that I played a ton last year and loved.

No wonder I enjoy the feel of the CT a whole lot.
Enjoyed the show. I’m firmly a Chrome Tour guy. I need the lower spin on my irons and have the same issues as Finley discussed with too much spin in wedges. Coming from The X LS, it was odd at first hitting the CT which feels softer than the X LS. After a few rounds, I’ve made the mental adjustment to it and love the softer feel. It’s not hyperbole when I say the CT is the best ball I’ve ever played.
There was a lot of talk about the aero design and @Canadan brought up symmetry on golf ball and if that makes a difference. The answer is yes.
The CT dimple design is definitely different than the CS X LS. Pretty excited to see how it flies, because I really liked the way the CS X LS flew in the wind.

Yeah good listen. Interesting to here Finley talk about the LS maybe being misnamed. That was always a bit aggravating. Misled a bit. Also interesting that despite being the least selling off the three that it was by the far the most used in the building.
Always good to hear the ball guru run through the thought processes in sales, development, and what they see from people on tour and off. Good stuff!
Also got a chuckle out of some of the ball ‘aggressive testing’ stuff when talking about durability. Like when he’s talking about leaving a ball on a roof in the rain for days. “How does that even compare to real life? Nobody does that..” lol
They absolutely do @JasonFinleyCG . Everyone that finds a random ball in the woods and plays it, whacks it off a bunch of trees or paths in their own game, and then tells their friends or posts about its durability is testing that testing. ?
