Royal Liverpool is going to be very hard for us to get through with the streak intact, going to take all the bad juju we can produce.

Live from The US Open will be more about how Rory lost than how Wyndham won.

And they shot the same score. I will go on record and say Clark will not win another major. This is a case of a horse for a course and the stars aligning. He made a ton of saves. Good for him. He earned this week.

The odds are obviously against him. I think he’s a bit more talented than many give him credit though. He’s a top 10-15 player this year. Does he continue to build on the success he’s found, or cool and fall off…….
I think Wyndham Clark has a decent chance at winning another major. If he can keep his tee shots in the fairway, he is certainly long enough.
He seems to have decent touch around the greens

I talked about this on Off Course this week. We keep saying, SOON, but at what point is it all just hot air? I also said though when he gets one, I could see him going on a Phil like tear in this age range.

Totally agreed with your comment on the show. The Open could be that next one too.
There is some choke talk and while I don’t think that was really a choke, greatness rises to the occasion and he just seems to coast. It took some weird bounce and a finger banging rules official to get to even. This was his for the taking and I basically assumed when they made the turn we would see Rory’s name take over. It just never happened.
It appears as though he needs to blitz the field to get it done. He has the ability.
So happy for Wyndham Clark, what a story.

Lot of Rory bashing. He didn’t win it but I don’t think you can say he really lost it. It’s not like he shot 75. Shot even par in the second to last group. Nobody went low the last few groups.
I’m with you.
Hit nearly every green in regulation too. Just didn’t make birdie putts. He got beat more so than he lost it.

Golf Digest made this note Monday morning, concerning the low attendance at the tournament. You probably wondered where everybody was.
“Moreover, out of the 23,000 [tickets available daily], close to 14,000 are allotted for suites and hospitality tents, meaning just 9,000 tickets classify as general admission. Out of the 9,000, it’s believed just half were allotted to the general public, as LACC gobbled up somewhere in the range of 4,000 to 4,500 of those tickets. (A persistent claim leading up to the championship was that LACC attempted to buy all of the tickets. A USGA official would not comment on the matter.)”

He got a huge break on 14 and totally blew that opportunity and had that very makeable birdie on 15.
Thinking about the course, I wish the tee shot on 18 was more demanding. You shouldn’t be able to hit it as bad as Clark did on 18 and still be in the fairway.

I don’t want it to be unfair, but there should be some consequences on the last hole for a bad shot off the tee. I’m guessing Clark knew he could miss in that direction and big fine.
He got a huge break on 14 and totally blew that opportunity and had that very makeable birdie on 15.
He has to make some putts on Sunday. Once again failed to do that.

So let’s see if I got this right, the guy that started the final round one shot back, and finished in second, one shot back, matching the winner’s Sunday score, choked.
The guy that started the final round tied for first, but finished in fifth, five shots back, is a class act, so you shouldn’t even think about saying that he choked.
I’m not a fan of either one, in fact don’t particularly like either one, but whatever. When my favorites all faded either Saturday or Sunday, I was glad to see Clark finish on top.

Yep. Hitting that many greens and to only get one birdie is not ideal.

After the gift of a free drop and bounding from the deep stuff into an adjacent fairway, I think there is more to it than just where it is.
The tournament was Rory’s to win, and he didn’t close. Just like the Open last year.
While I am not in the camp that he choked, I understand the logic behind it.
But for Rickie? Who has said he hasn’t choked? I mean we have an entire thread about his lack of play on Sundays.
So we know Mike Whan isn’t concerned with the strength of field in our National Open. I wonder if he is concerned with the lack of atmosphere during it? It looked and sounded more like a Korn Ferry tour event.
I thought the golf course provided a pretty fair test on second shots, bunker play, chipping and putting, but not a stern test off many of the tees. While I liked the course as a whole, the USGA should take their show elsewhere. The lack of fans is an absolute deal breaker in my opinion.

The ball did not change from its original position, thus it did not move under the definition in the Rules
seldom seen, you can even accidentally touch the ball at address and not be penalized as long as the ball does not come to rest in a different position

I never considered that Rory choked. He missed some putts on tough greens. Plenty of others did the same. He got beat. Ricky, on the other hand…

Oh, I have LONG wanted to have this discussion.

Chubby Rory didn’t play it safe all the time, he took chances, playing to win instead of playing not to lose.
Chubby Rory attempts to hit 5W from the rough on 14 yesterday. Current Rory doesn’t have the mindset that Chubby Rory had, and that is why it’s been 9 years and counting related to major wins.

I’ll give you 36 at Winged Foot, if 38 is back at Torrey south. Otherwise no deal, Torrey deserves 36.
Torrey was for both 2008 and 2021 opens firm and fast, with plenty of kikuyu rough that I am sure most have heard plenty about thanks to Azinger and Company, and we allow fricken fans to attend. If fans are again restricted, I 100% endorse the no go X for LACC in 39 even though I liked the course and test provided.
Pretty sure both Woods and Rahm will endorse this comment. Deal or no deal?;)
