Volvik is a brand that has seamlessly injected the fun element of golf into their product lines. Their inventory boasts an extensive range of golf balls, many featuring vibrant colors, and some even contain superhero emblems. However, despite their playful approach, Volvik still strives to reach the golfer who is more focused on performance, and that is the golfer they are targeting with their two newest offerings within their Tour Performance line, the Condor and Condor X golf balls.
Since Volvik positions these golf balls as their tour balls, it should be no surprise that they both come with a soft cast urethane cover, which is here to help give increased and consistent spin, but the real story about the Condor line is what is happening on the inside.
Condor is the first golf ball to incorporate a new white carbon material commonly found in high-end tires. This material has high density and cohesion, which ensures that energy transfer is not lost and that the rubber does not age. Thanks to this material, the ball’s core employs increased elastic energy that gathers and releases the condensed force at the moment of impact. In simpler terms, adding white carbon improves the rebound efficiency and ball speed.
One of the distinguishing features between Condor and Condor X is their structural setup. Condor is a three-piece golf ball, while Condor X utilizes a fourth layer as part of a Hyper W-Carbonic and Elastin Dual Mantle design. Additionally, in terms of compression rating, the Condor possesses a compression rating of 85, which is ten lower than that of the Condor X.
While warmer weather is on the horizon, we could not get these balls out on the golf course during the review period. However, with the help of a SkyTrak+ unit, I captured all the data needed to see how these two balls performed for my swing. Below is a chart of how these balls performed with a driver, 7-iron, and SW.
Condor
Condor X
As you can see, there were some similarities in numbers between these two balls, but also several differences. One of the most noticeable differences was the peak height achieved when using a driver. As you can see, Condor X peaked 7 yards higher than the Condor, and in all of the sessions I compared these two balls, Condor X carried a higher peak every single time. Condor also flew slightly lower when comparing 7-irons and spun less across the board. Both options also provided plenty of spin during the wedge test, meaning there would be no worries about stopping these balls quickly on the green. Volvik does mention that a differentiating factor between these two balls is the amount of spin, with the Condor X being the higher-spinning ball of the two, so I am glad to see that is how it tested out for me as well.
Testing data is valuable, it does not reveal how these balls sound or feel. After hitting each ball with various clubs throughout the bag, the Condor has a slight advantage for my preference. However, the difference is minimal compared to other brands that offer two different variants of the same line. The tone of the Condor is only slightly deeper than that of the Condor X.
Although not entirely relevant to the review itself, one question that inevitably arises is which option is better suited for my game when comparing two similar products. Based on my testing process, I would likely put the Condor in play first. As someone who tends to launch the ball high, I typically play a golf ball with a slightly flatter trajectory off the tee and with my irons. Currently, the Condor fits that bill. It will be interesting to see how both balls play out on the course in the future.
Volvik’s new Condor series is available at a retail price of $42.99 per dozen. More information is available at www.volvik.com.
Today was the start of one of my leagues and I put the CONDOR in play. Conditions in OH today: Light Rain this morning that finally let up around 1030am. My tee time is 1;30, weather was clear, gusting winds of 20-30MPH so some holes will benefit others….well.
I teed up the Condor fresh out of the sleeve, first look was that I liked the “whiteness” and that the logo didn’t effect my line of sight on the tee. First drive, very clean sound off the club and I could track it with no problem. The opening hole is a Par 5 and I got about 225yd out of my hit. I then tried my 3W from the fairway and again, nice clean sound off club and good distance. Now my irons; I play ZX4’s and the ball really jumped off my 6 iron; I had the same feeling that I had with my woods, 3rd shot placed me on the collar with about 30yds to pin. 4 was a chip in which I did some spin and bite but to be honest I really couldn’t give you a qualified answered. Left that shot within 18″ and made putt for par.
So I used the same ball for 8 holes and loved how it came off my clubs however, tee shot on hole 8: CONDOR musta got homesick and headed to the woods never to be found. In first text, I like this ball, it’s nice construction and the way it felt of the faces of my clubs satisfied me on what this ball was to do and be like.
Next week, the CONDOR X gets the call to the tee:.
After yesterday’s experience with the condor I really wanted to give the X a try, @ddec gave me a couple and I really enjoyed the experience today. A little firmer and a little more spin that the regular version. Again no issues off the tee but definitely more spin with irons and wedges, even chipped one in today.
The ball in many ways reminds me of the Mizuno RB Tour Ball and I dig it especially at the price point these are coming in at

Both balls felt pretty similar off club face and putter. Both balls do not have the alignment aid that XT Soft does which is a shame as I really like that. Now that my league starts in 2 weeks I’ll be able to get out and see how they perform in the elements

Yep, I didn’t think I’d like it but it made a difference from the first putt.
Played 9 with the XT Soft Yellow yesterday. Initially I didn’t care for the bright and shiny color, but after a few shots it didn’t bother me and the ball was easy to spot even in high grass. I really like the texture (?) of the cover. It fells really grippy, if that’s a word. It felt good of the driver. Not much difference, if any, to the Q Star Tour with pretty much the same distances. Also there’s a noticeably different (not bad) sound. I am by no means a spinner of the golf ball, but it was quite evident that chips and pitches were not running out nearly as far as usual. I will being doing another 18 on Saturday and will update after.
P.S. I was going to do comparisons on on my MLMPro of all three balls but had to take down my net to store some stuff in the garage. I will get the testing done in a couple of weeks.
Hit a bunch of wedges with both balls today. Really like the feel of each. Both are solid, but never border on too hard. The X may be a touch more firm, but it’s hard to distinguish honestly. Like where these both sit.
In play today. It is a windy but sunny day. Will be a good test

Tested the Condor and the Condor X yesterday at an indoor trackman facility. Visually both look pretty much the same. Condor is an 85 compression 3 piece ball while the Condor X is 95 compression 4 piece ball.
With my PW the Condor ball avg 112 yds with an avg spin rate of 7182 and with the Condor X similar distance of 111 and spin rate of 7487.
With my 7 iron Condor ball avg 150 yds with an avg spin rate of 5337 and with Condor X 148 yds with an avg spin rate of 5001.
With Driver Condor ball avg 232 yds with spin rate of 3506 and with Condor X 231 and 4194.

Good stuff here. I probably missed it, but what ball do you normally play and how does it compare to some of the numbers you have here?
Will be testing these out tomorrow in my round. Will get them on the mlm pro 2 shortly as well.
Ok. I want to try to break down my experience today with the condor balls.
First off. I want to talk conditions today. They were tough. Lots of wind. To try and give you a clue as to how much wind. Today I tried to hit a flighted 9 iron at a 179 yard target and few it. Then a couple holes later I hit a 9 iron to a 125 yard target and tried again to flight it under the wind and came up short. So conditions were fun.
First things let’s talk about the good. This ball may be the best wind ball I have ever played. It really bucked the wind well. The challenge for me was adjusting. Playing in the wind is both a huge challenge and I think it is fun. I don’t shy away from wind. The condor and condor X did really well in the wind. I hit a few other balls to compare randomly around the courses from the tee, wedge shots, iron shots etc. the Volvik did very well and was really controllable.. I enjoyed it a lot I. The shot making category.
The one area I would say for me that it lacked was around the greens. It feel clicky to me and firm. Both models. I felt like on chips and pitches it would launch higher and not really grab and run out more than I thought it should. It could just be a me thing. I am not super comfortable with wedges these days and feel like that is among the weakest part of my game. But I did feel like this ball struggled for me there.
As far as looks go. It’s fine. The white is pretty white. The logo is fine, but I am really not picky about aesthetics like that.

I usually play a Srixon Qstar but while testing the Volviks I used a Bridgestone E6 (Southern Twang) ball.
With a 7 iron numbers were
Bridgestone E6: 153 yd avg- 5595 spin
Condor : 150.25 yd avg – 5500 spin
Condor x: 149.75 avg -5684 spin
With Driver
Bridgestone E6: 236 yd avg -3636 spin
Condor: 232- 3506
Condor X: 231- 3194
Something I need to work on is learning more about spin #’s and which are better for my game. I pretty much go by price and feel as to what golf ball I choose.
Got these on course today. 1st thing I noticed is the condor had some kind of mark on 1 of the dimples not sure what happened there.
1st tee used the condor. @Nick Kane and I both though it sounds like you’re hitting a very hard ball but the feel wasn’t at all hard. Flight was nice and distance seemed very comparable to my gamer the qst. I will say around the greens it didn’t seem to spin as much but that could be the archer not the arrow as I’m not high spin but I can get some balls to hop and stop. The durability was very good as I had 2 wayward shots later in the round using it and the tree limb scuffs came right off. Ball felt nice off the putter and had a normal sound so not sure why my irons and woods sound so different with it.
Next up was the condor x. This ball is probably a little too high compression for my game but it feels good off the club face. Doesn’t have the same sound it seems as the regular condor has more of your typical premium ball sound. Off the putter I liked this ball a little more than the regular condor it seemed to have more speed off the putter face. Around the green I really liked this ball i got it to check up on a couple of shots. Durability seems solid this one didn’t hit any trees but didn’t notice any scuffs or anything with multiple wedge shots.
I plan on getting out tomorrow and putting these two into play at a fairly tough course that makes you hit a lot of different shots. Should be a good test for these.

agreed. Would be a great conversation that I would want to listen to.. Interestingly these have 336 dimples. that is probably the number that exists most commonly in golf..
Some more short game testing, and some comments below:
Feel: I’m really liking what the Condor offers from a feel perspective. Sits right in a good window of solid, yet not hard. It compares very well to other balls that aren’t in the Soft category, but also not a high compression ‘X’. I prefer it to the Condor X and the XT Soft. The Condor X is still good in this regard, just a bit too hard for my liking. Could I play it, sure, no issues there. Not as harsh as some other X balls I’ve played in the past. I just like the Condor better.
Greenside Spin: I am seeing more greenside spin with the Condor X, as expected. Pretty even from rough, both roll out very similar with my swing. But I’ve noticed the X is more of a one hop and stop, versus the Condor with is a one hop, and roll out a bit. Still want to try a variety of shots, and see how they both perform.
So far, is this testing from 100 yards and in, I enjoy both, but my preference lies with the Condor over the Condor X due to it being a bit softer feeling. A preference of mine coming from other balls that are similar.
On course testing will be later this week. Just want to make sure I get in some more short game testing before the possibility of lost balls comes into play. So if anyone has anything else they want to see with a wedge or putter in hand, please let me know!
I’m testing the Volvik balls. I warmed up for 6 holes using my normal TaylorMade Tour Response. Then I switched to the Condor ball. I usually don’t like higher compression balls, but I really played well with these and enjoyed the feel. They are about 10 higher in compression than the Tour Response, but preformed great for me. I think the Condor X may be too hard for me, but we shall see tomorrow.
I finally got a chance to test these outside. I went to a driving range (actually a sand greens golf course that is usually empty). After warming up with range balls, I mixed in the Condor, Condor X and my usual gamer Tour B RX. I hit driver with the balls tee’d down very low to try and find the fairway into a stiff north wind of 20-30 mph. It was a small sample size, but both Volvik balls performed very well in the wind with maybe a slight edge to the Condor X. Again, small sample, could have just been the swing I put on the ball. I did notice both Volvik balls and my gamer flew 10-15 yds farther than the range balls. Both balls felt fine off the driver and the Condor X was definitely firmer, but not in a bad way. I have a tournament this Sunday and will put them in play on an actual course and report back.
Well I played my 2nd round of league play today and tried the Condor X, to be brutally honest; I put the ball back into the sleeve and played another ball. It wasn’t that I did not like the X but conditions today in Ohio were not great. Temp was 42* @ tee off, Wind gusts of 12-20MPH. It had also rained throughout the night and was misty/slight pissdrizzle 90 minutes b4 tee. To what I felt on the first 2 holes using the X: wasn’t feeling it. The high compression vs my slow swing speed just weren’t working along with the elements. Hopefully next week we’ll have better weather and I will play the X again and will report after my round what I thought of it. Sorry guys…..TBC……..
Just found my package in the mail I forgot to check haha oops!
I received 1 sleeve of each
Condor
Condor X
XT Soft White
XT Soft Yellow
Interesting note I saw on the side of the package which may or may not have been mentioned already…do not leave balls in direct sunlight as color may change. I found that interesting.

Just my observations over time, but a firmer ball can be surprisingly beneficial to some slower players since some of them are designed to spin more and fly a little higher. You just kind of have to get over the feel/mental aspect of it.

Hit some shots, and wanted to report back what I was seeing.
In the 70-80 yard partial shots I was seeing a lower and flatter ball flight out of the X, overall. There isn’t a large variance that jumps out at you, but hitting them back to back that’s what my eyes were seeing. Maybe 5-10 feet of difference in peak height, but that’s just a guess.
Wish I had access to a LM to get more granular, so I’m curious to see what you were seeing.
Still putting around with these at home – haven’t been able to get out and hit balls this week.
I am finding that the Condor is maybe slightly better for me for distance control. Honestly, the X is just a little firmer and not really my style. First full swing tests will come tomorrow afternoon in a rain/wind 9 hole walk. Hopefully I can keep from sending one of these into the junk!
Finally got these on the course today.
Not sure why, but I did not enjoy them off the driver today. Not sure if it was too much spin, but both the Condor, and especially the Condor X, had more side to side movement than before. Back 9 I also hit my gamer ball, and was much more consistent with it than the Voviks.
From 150 and in, it was fine. I was seeing good shot trajectory, again a bit higher with the regular Condor. Greens were difficult today, so matter the shot everything was rolling out. I’m going to refrain from judging them, since the greens seems overly fast, at least compared to what I’m used to.
Going to need to give them another round, but based on what I was seeing with driver, I don’t have the most confidence right now. One round, so more to come.
Same experience. Couldn’t keep the ball in, or near, the fairway. Switched to my Softfli on the 7th and had no problems from then on.
Played 9 today. Didn’t play my normal clubs as I won some others – that’s for another thread.
First three holes with the Condor X. Ball flight was actually quite high off the driver. I was moving it quite a bit from left to right, but found one fairway, and only missed the others by a few yards. Iron ball flight was good. Off the wedges this thing checked like crazy. Not sure if it was the wedges or the ball, but dang. That’s not a game I usually play lol
Next three holes played the Condor. Again, ball flight was good off the driver. Just as much height as the X, but less left to right movement so probably less side spin. Similar results with the irons. On clean shots, ball went high and far. A little too far even. Not as much check with the wedges, but I prefer that right now anyway.
Played the XT soft for the last three holes. Will update that thread.
For me, I think it’s down to the regular Condor or the XT for preferred ball out of the group so far.
Putting with both was frustrating today. Not the balls fault. I missed all but one of my first putts today. Missed by less than the width of the ball. Not sure if it was just me, or the new putter, but it wasn’t the ball. Speed was fantastic and consistent.
Went and just putted around and chipped with these again. The feel off the putter with both is great. I enjoy the putter feel.
I still can’t figure out chipping with these.. very well could be a me problem though..

Got to the short game area yesterday after work and put all 3 volvik balls in play. I have a post on the xt soft in that thread as well.
Putting I had 1 of each ball in play. The condor felt good off the face wasn’t too firm and speed control was consistent and rolled well for me this ball was 2nd overall for me. The condor x as stated before is probably not right for my game and on the putting green was a little firmer than I am used to. I wasn’t miles off putting with the condor x but I did have a learning curve to get the speed right.
Chipping is where I could really tell the difference the condor performed pretty well and I got a couple to stop quickly. I did try to carry some to the hole and stop them and I did get a couple to do it ( again my game not the ball). Bump and run performed the best of the 3 balls in the test for me and the roll out was predictable.
The condor x I surprisingly could get to check up when trying to on a couple of shots but mostly I played the shots with the x for more roll out. Bump and run performed well it did run out more than the other 2 in testing but that is probably to be expected with my game.
Durability again was solid the regular condor did show more wear than the x but it’s due to me having more shots with it. I wouldn’t be concerned to put these in play at all.
Next testing/practice sessions I will just use 1 ball each time and see how each ball performs specifically for me and not against each other.
Got the Condor and Condor X on the course today and was surprised by the results. It was windy today and the fairways and greens were running fast.
Off the tee the X was the winner. Seemed straighter and handled the wind better. The regular Condor wasn’t bad but it was a good bit shorter into the wind.
I don’t hit many greens so it’s hard for me to judge approach shots. I will say the X flew higher off my irons and hybrid. I don’t think I would’ve had an issue stopping either even as firm as the greens were.
Chipping, pitching, and putting was a draw. Both felt and performed nearly identical with the Condor having a touch more stopping power than the X.
Overall I think I like the X better but I didn’t play that well so that could change next time out. I do believe Volvik has two winners here if people will give them a chance.
