Asics is a renowned brand with a reputation for producing some of the most comfortable running shoes worldwide. Regardless of whether one is a marathon runner or a golfer, it is imperative to wear shoes that fit correctly, provide adequate support, and do not cause discomfort. Fortunately, Asics has integrated several of its comfort and support technologies and design elements built for runners into their golf shoes. Today, we highlight two models, including the new and updated GEL-KAYANO ACE 2 from the 2024 Asics golf shoes catalogue.
“The GEL-KAYANO ACE 2 provides a strong foundation for golfers and their swings, with extra stability and comfort for rounds in any conditions. Specialized Flex Grooves enhance rotation during the swing and make for an easier walk. All-around, these shoes put golfers in the best position to feel their best on the course.” -ASICS General Manager Ryan Polanco
When choosing a pair of golf shoes, comfort is crucial, especially for those who prefer walking. Asics incorporates some of their latest technologies from their running shoes into the GEL-KAYANO ACE 2. This shoe features FlyteFoam, 55% lighter than the industry standard, and ASICS GEL, providing excellent shock absorption to keep your feet comfortable throughout your round. If you have yet to experience Asics GEL, know that your heels will thank you.
Asics is a brand that values design philosophy. Therefore, they put a lot of thought into designing its spikeless outsoles. For Asics, the focus is on providing the right amount of grip for golfers throughout their swing and even while walking the course. The GEL-KAYANO Ace 2 features a wedge-shaped stud that offers additional grip needed while walking downhill, ensuring golfers feel stable and connected to the ground during every aspect of their round.
Lastly, even though the GEL-KAYANO ACE 2 keeps things light and breathable with a flexible mesh upper, it still boasts some impressive waterproofing thanks to a thin PU lining, making these shoes a solid choice for all my fellow dew sweepers.

GEL-ACE PRO M
In the spring of 2022, Asics introduced the GEL-ACE Pro M golf shoes, which catered to the preferences of conventional golfers who favor a spiked design. Asics’ Pro M golf shoes, regarded as their most premium product, were designed to offer comfort and stability to golfers during their 18-hole walks. These shoes feature a waterproof synthetic leather upper and are equipped with popular Asics technologies, such as FLYTEFOAM and ASICS GEL.
The company initially launched the Pro M golf shoes in two colorways – white/black and black/pure silver, which was comparatively safer than the brand’s other shoe color options. With the Pro M model remaining part of their product line in 2024, instead of a complete refresh, Asics has announced two new colorways: White/Mako Blue and White/Midnight, scheduled for release on February 21.

I need to get a pair of the kayano. Love the running version I expect this is similar.
They look nice. Some brightness but not overwhelming. I had a pair last season and can’t say I enjoyed the durability very much. Shoes can be tricky so mileage may vary.
I have historically wore Asics’ cross training shoes for walking but have never seen their golf shoes in a retail store up here to try them out. I will have to continue my quest this year as I don’t like to purchase without trying on and getting size bang on. I find a little bit of variation over the years on sizing between models so for me I like to test them out before committing. Their cross trainer shoes are golf as far as comfort.
Been eyeing the Gel-Ace pro in boa. Think they’re only available in Japan. I had a couple of pair of Asics about 10 years ago or more. Great fit, finish and comfort. Only knock was waterproofing didn’t last long. Hopefully that’s improved now that they’ve been making Golf shoes for awhile now.
I could get into this one.

I’ve used a pair of ASICS Duo BOA shoes since their release. They’re so comfortable. A touch heavy though. Maybe it’s time for a refresh. I like the looks of these.
Good looking shoes. Never tried Asics golf shoes, but have enjoyed their running shoes in the past.

Man that stinks. Which model did you have and where did you see some breakdown issues?
These look good, I will check them out.
Never have owned a pair of Asics shoes. Do like the looks of these, especially the spikeless model.
I love ASICS sneakers for work but have never tried the golf shoes, that may have to change.
Pretty sweey looking kicks .
Definitely will try some on if I can ever gind them in store! (finicky shoe sizing person).
Thanks doe the write up Dean!
Good timing. My Gel Course golf shoes are getting pretty worn out and causing me some plantar fascitis when I walk. They’ve been great and lasted 2 years. I’ve worn the Kayano running shoes as my daily wear shoes for almost 30 years. Time to get the golf version.

These are sharp. I’ve had ASICS before and they are nice. I like Puma Alphacat Boa a bit more, but I’d like to try these on.
Nice looking and good price. Would definitely pick a pair to replace my current ones.
As colorways go – These two blues don’t work together:

and I agree with @Hawk that I could rock the spike version all day!
I like. Plus, from the looks they seem to offer some great arch support, which I find a lot of golf shoes are missing these days.

I had the “pro”. All leather. BOA. Extremely nice and good looking. Very comfortable. They leaked around the toe. Created some blisters and had to be sprayed for athletes feet and baked in the sun. Happened a few times. Really liked them. Maybe it’s just a one off type thing.
The Pro-M are much better looking. The white and mako blue that @Hawk posted above are sweet.

I had the last ones in Navy/Silver and liked them. I’ve looked at the new ones and they’re a good shoe but I think I’m out. No colorway I absolutely love and they’re still pretty pricey for what I always think looks like a gym/running shoe.

Those are my two favorites in these.
I like the way the shoe with the spike looks versus the bottom on the spikeless which seems bulky. I’m sure they are comfy but just my weirdness
Great info @ddec – I want to try the Pro M at some point.
I think I may need to add a pair of Asics to the rotating in 2024, been watching them for quite a while and have always enjoyed their running shoes.

You don’t think so?
I was a long time Kayano user and felt like the golf version were pretty solid. I’m interested in your thoughts on this.
I love the previous model of the Kayano’s. Yes they are not a running shoe, but they work great, I have no issues with water, and they are comfortable. So no reason at all I won’t give the new ones a try!
I prefer walking and played 50+ rounds in Kayanos last season – plan on getting another pair for 2024.

I don’t know. I wore Kayanos for 5-6 years exclusively (later to learn they weren’t ideal for my foot, but that’s another story). I thought the golf shoes were really similar in comfort, look, etc.
I actually dig these a lot. Well done Deano.
@Hawk you used some Asics for a bit last year right? How was the traction on them? My only Asics experience was a set of Match 33’s and that was well over a decade ago.

Not as much as grip as the Alphas, but more than enough for me. I’ve played many rounds with much less traction.

I wasn’t sure what I would find in the line up but I like it! I dig the darker blue option.
I had a pair of Asics a couple years ago. They were very comfortable, but unfortunately the lining at the heel wore out pretty quickly. Still a sharp looking shoe though!
I’d be tempted to give these a try since I’ve had great luck in the past with their running shoes. I really like the white/volt combo!
I have the first version of the Kayano Ace golf shoe and it is fantastic. I used it all of last year. Easily the most comfortable golf shoe I have tried on. It has more cushioning than most yet is extremely stable. I walk and have flat feet and need both. The traction is very good even in the most slippery conditions. As good as any non-spiked shoe can be. They are also very breathable. I also have a pair of Kayano running sneakers which I like as well. You can see/feel a lot of the running sneaker tech in the golf shoe. What else would you expect from a running sneaker company. Anyone who walks a lot or has tired, achy feet after playing should absolutely try these.

Full disclosure.. this is pure speculation. i haven’t tried on their newest iteration but i have with their previous two. Ive worn Kayano’s running shoes for many years in rotation and their golf Kayano line felt NOTHING like Kayanos. They were uncomforming although very stable. Theyre not bad golf shoes per say, just not Kayanos which is what im assuming youre expecting. Ive learnt that there are no golf shoes out there that wears like a REAL pair of runners thats supportive and pillowy. None. The closest shoe ive came across that wore (almost) like a true pair of running shoes were the Adidas Ultraboost but they lacked support.
Listen.. i hope im wrong this time around… but i doubt it.
Pass the colors of women’s Ace 2 are boring – grey or white
I want the orange Gel Kayano Ace 2. I have 2 pairs of the first generation and really like them.
Wore the 2024 Kayanos for the first time yesterday – white is a welcomed change from 2023 colorway.
