TaylorMade has believed that the TP5/TP5x golf ball is the most complete golf ball on the market since its introduction in 2017. The company has traditionally released an updated version of this line every two years, each with some improvements. In 2019, the Speed-Layer system was brought to the masses to boost speed, and in 2021, a new Tour Flight Dimple pattern was added to improve aerodynamics and performance in windy conditions. With three years since the last version, TaylorMade has been working to ensure that the 2024 iteration will be the most significant update yet. Today, the wait is finally over as TaylorMade unveils their newest TP5 and TP5x golf balls.
It’s worth noting that TaylorMade has invested over $100 million into their golf ball category this year. They strive to ensure that every aspect of the golf ball meets their high standards and qualities. This is a significant venture, representing their largest investment as an organization in the last five years. This has allowed TaylorMade to become one of the few companies that make cast urethane golf balls while being 100% vertically integrated. It also means some big things are coming on the horizon for TaylorMade in this category.
Since the wait for this release extended an extra year, it allowed TaylorMade to have this product in the prototype stage for a more extended period than usual. With that being the case, these new TP5 golf balls are the company’s most prototype-tested product they has ever made. Ready to hear about the results of all this testing? Let’s get to it.
“Our learnings from countless player and Tour tests show that golfers, unsurprisingly, favor a softer, more muted sound with added distance. Historically, the challenge has been the inability to improve one without negatively impacting the other. With this understanding, we’ve evolved our golf ball design process by uniquely decoupling feel and speed through material advancement, a complete departure from the conventional. The material-level advancement positions our TP5/TP5x family as having the best feel in the industry with faster constructions.”
– Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Balls –
The 2024 TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x golf balls focus on delivering both speed and a soft feel. Previously, achieving these qualities in a golf ball has been difficult. Engineers could increase compression to make a ball faster, but that also meant negatively affecting its sound and feel. Alternatively, the core could be softened to create a more muted ball, but this would sacrifice distance for some golfers. TaylorMade’s new TP5 balls address this issue by using a new technology called Speed Wrapped Core. Speed Wrapped technology allows the company to increase ball speeds while maintaining the softness of the golf ball. This new core material is less dense, which is essential for controlling sound without having that inverse effect on speed. It is made of a unique material that has never been used before in the golf industry, but it works similarly to the Speed Foam used in their p790 irons.
TaylorMade has incorporated Speed Foam in the hollow body of the p790 irons to regulate sound and enable a thinner face, resulting in faster and more pleasant performance. If you have ever compared a completely hollow iron with one that uses SpeedFoam, you would have noticed that the latter produces less noise. To ensure the same softness and sound control, the new TP5 golf balls utilize a similar method to create a quieter, less clicky sound. Sound plays a significant role in the overall feel of the golf ball.
Even with the presence of the Speed Wrapped Core, this line continues to be a 5-layer golf ball. There were times in the past when the differences between layers were minimal in terms of compression, and that all changed with the new TP5 series. These new balls offer the highest speed gradient that TaylorMade has ever had in a golf ball, which means that this golf ball can uniquely react depending on the type of shot being played. When teeing it up with a driver, the highest swing speed club in the bag, golfers can activate a low 5-compression core, which will help deliver high launch and low spin. As players get closer to the green and start with their wedges, only the two outer layers come into play: A firmer mantle and a soft cast urethane cover, leading to more spin control. According to TaylorMade, the new TP5 golf balls are remarkably different from their predecessors when it comes to iron play. In fact, they claim that it is one of the longest iron-performing golf balls they have ever produced.
Are You a TP5 or TP5x Golfer?
Below is a quick breakdown of each golf ball and the type of player it best suits. However, if you are still deciding which ball to purchase while you are at the store, TaylorMade has devised a simple and speedy solution. Located on every TP5 golf ball box’s cover is a QR code that leads to a ball recommendation tool. Answer twelve relevant questions and TaylorMade will suggest the TP5 golf ball that best matches your playing style.
2024 TaylorMade TP5
Golfers seeking a golf ball with superior control around the green and increased spin on wedge shots should find the TP5 an ideal option. Compared to the TP5x, it boasts a softer feel and a marginally higher ball flight. TaylorMade has reduced the driver spin in contrast to the previous generation while still ensuring exceptional greenside performance. TP5 will also offer the highest amount of iron spin within the lineup.
2024 TaylorMade TP5x
Golfers prioritizing longer distances and higher speeds will appreciate the TP5x golf ball from TaylorMade, as it is their fastest 5-layer tour ball. The TP5x reduces spin on driver, iron, and wedge shots while maintaining a flatter, penetrating trajectory. As expected, TP5x will have a firmer feel than that of TP5.
2024 TaylorMade TP5 and TP5X Pix
TaylorMade collaborated with Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood to help revamp the design of their TP5/TP5x Pix golf balls. The previous “motion triangle” graphic has been replaced with a “motion diamond” shape, resulting in more orange closer to the centerline and black color further away. The change may seem subtle, but it improves the colors’ contrast and increases the ClearPath Alignment’s visibility, which will help provide more feedback to golfers when rolling putts.
The Details
Starting today, the new 2024 TaylorMade TP5, TP5x, and Pix editions are available in stores for $54.99. TP5 and TP5x are available in both white and yellow. More information on the latest TP5 golf balls is available at www.taylormadegolf.com.

That’s cool. Didn’t think about them including any Pix models. I assumed just a couple TP5 and x.
5x continues to be about the longest on course off the tee for me with my setup. 5 is right there though and I prefer it for most of the rest of my bag.

While I’m happy with Pro V1x, I would definitely consider a softer feeling spinier ball if distance wasn’t drastically impacted. Tested Z Star Diamond. It was good but firm. I’m really looking forward to testing the new TP5 and BSX.
I played 9 with the TP5 today and came away very impressed. The soft feel and sound are fantastic. It performed very well off driver, irons and short game when I put a good swing on it. Need some more swings with it but I really like this ball.
Mine should be arriving this coming week so looking forward to getting them on course.
Got my sample pack today. Will try them after the Goat Cup.
Received my sample pack on Friday and got a chance to try out the TP5 today. The ball really felt good off the driver, fairway woods, and irons. Distance wise, I didn’t see any difference in my gamer, the Chrome Tour. Back out on Tuesday and will give the TP5x a go.
I played a TP5X for about 2/3 of a round over the weekend. It is really long. It seemed quite low spin. I hit a couple of fantastic pw shots and the ball did not seem like it had much spin when it hit the green.
My test kit arrived yesterday. Nice mix of the TP5 & TP5X with the Pix blended in.
Lets see how these compare with the Tour B RX…

Golf Galaxy/DSG sent me another 4 pack to try. The universe really wants me to give these balls a try.
Mine came yesterday, unfortunately I don’t think the weather is going to cooperate in getting to play this weekend.
i tried to do some ball testing with both previous models vs these 2024 models and it didnt go too hot lol. My swing is absolutely awful and couldnt take away any useful data at all. One thing i found with my awful swing is the 2024 TP5x had 300rpms more spin on 50 yard shots than TP5. Other than that i really didnt notice much difference but my session was so bad im not making any decisions yet
i will say the 2024 TP5 feels noticably softer than the TP5x.
I got an Email a little over a month ago asking if i would test the new TP5’s, so i signed up. Did not hear anything for a few weeks and then i got an email saying they shopped, showed up last week and they look awesome in the packaging. I just got released to swing from my shoulder and have a meeting tomorrow afternoon, looking forward to trying these out
So I don’t have any data from a 50 yard pitch shot, I did go to the simulator and get data from my driver and 7i. Most important piece of information to me is the driver spin and the dispersion as my tee ball is make or break for my scoring. I’m an extremely high spin player that has got fit into low spin/low launch shafts (project x 6.5 rifle shafts ion my irons and wedges). I was between the Chrome Tour and the TP5x. I’ve played a few rounds with the Chrome Tour and the TP5x both have plenty of green side spin for me but the TP5x wins out with one of, if not the least amount of spin off my driver that doesn’t balloon. The TP5x is my new gamer. Last year I played Pro -V1x (left dash) exclusively. I just felt like it wasn’t quite right, the TP5x feels perfect for me. I’m posting my driver numbers for TP5X first and the Chrome Tour second, it wasn’t a great day at the sim but I hit a few as though I felt like it was my normal swing. After being on the course a few times it has held up really well and played as I would have expected after being in the sim. I’ve also tested Chrome Tour x, Pro V1, Pro V1x, Oncore (all 4 premium balls) and BS Tour B X (launches way too high for me).
I played each of these for 9 holes today and….
Better, I guess? But still not there for me.
The X is just such a hard golf ball, it’s reminiscent of the RZN Black for me, and I’m not a slow swinger. Distance was good, spin into greens was fair, but it was just FIRM as hell off of every club in the bag.
The 5 was better feeling, but still more firm than what I’m used to playing. Spin greenside was better, definitely an improvement from last time, but it just didn’t have the pop I expected off the tee I guess?
They’re ok, but for me didn’t hit the hype/hope I had in my head I guess. Worth grabbing a couple sleeves to try though.
Giving the 24 TP5 a serious look…..I’m slow and spin with launch …..23 v1x fits but the TP5 feels better to my aging body …..more to come

WOW!!! Does this TP5 work well for me….. higher flight but piercing with very consistent and predictable spin characteristics……best tp5 they’ve made …
Actually plays like a combo of the 2 new chrome tour balls ?
I’ve been playing the TP5 and B XS, one on the front one on the back and vice versa next time out. We’ve had a few windy days and the TP5 has been really good in it. I’m a long time Bstone player and have some sentimentality but I’m rolling with the TP5 for the foreseeable future. It’s just an outstanding performer.
Opened up a sleeve of an older version TP5X (2yrs?) and immediately remembered why I played these. Guess I’ll give the new version a go.
I’ve played around 18 combined holes now with the TP5 and 5x and like both. Good feel, good performance all around. Can’t really find any faults with them. Longest drive Sunday was with a TP5. Also had a great up and down from 56 yards with a pitch that stopped dead at about 8 feet from the pin just how I wanted it. Neither model came up in my Ballnamic results last week, but so far I’ve enjoyed playing my sample pack anyway.
Also……anyone on the fence about using the TP5 ball , I have a few 4pk of TP5 and pix TP5 left that I’ll send out to demo ….hit me in PM.

Played in ridiculous conditions today …..30+ sustained mph winds gusting to 40 …..yet TP5 was so solid and stable !! Kinda like the 22 BX ball but better feel …..and not short!!!
Shot 77 , didn’t lose a ball and the one I’m using still looks NEW ? ? ? ? ?

Excited, @LDUBFIREGOLFER & generosity means the TP5 testing box is arriving tomorrow, very grateful to try.
Will need to get these around & on the green practicing for feel & spin before BH travel. May need to add some to the current 2 dozen (2021 release) that are planned to go
I played a sleeve of TP5 Donuts earlier in the week and the feel off the face of irons and wedges is just the best. It’s a tad bit firmer than something like a PV1 but not quite as hard as most X offerings. It sits in a very nice spot feel wise for me.
I just noticed that Taylormade skips the 4 in their numbering sequence.
Is it because 4 is considered unlucky in some cultures? Simply a nod to its 5 layer ball (shade at 4 piece balls?)?
These are good, surprisingly good. Hitting the TP5 & TP5 pix around the green and the feel is really really good. Putter feel on the insert of the Wingman is the best I’ve felt in a while and mutes the high pitched sound most balls make.
These are good, only able to do short stuff today but will need to try and get them on the sim this week.
The TP5x is a great ball for me.

Not even a TP5 helps enough with greenside spin in the dew. Bump and run was working tho.
Short game was the only thing working. I was far too timid with irons and woods due to the shankfest I had at the Qi fitting earlier this week. I refuse to put a solid swing on anything so was hitting swipy fades. I do enjoy TP5 off irons though when I hit them like I should. It feel like a slightly firmer PV1 (my security blanket ball) but has the spin of a V1x. It’s a good combo for me.
Once I get back to swinging it free of those terrible shank thoughts I’ll be able to do a better 1v1 comparison with it and BX for the 2024 spot in my bag.
