It’s the first trip of the THP Event series called Shaft Up with UST Mamiya in 2024. For those that have missed the previous years, Shaft Up is a series of 3 events on the THP Forum where lucky forum members win a full fitting, golf at amazing course, new equipment and oh yeah, it is all 100% free including airfare. This year trip 1 is being held at the beautiful Victoria National Golf Club and it is going to be an amazing follow.
Shaft Up #1 is coming next week and just because you will not be at Victoria National with Danny Le from UST Mamiya, and myself, does not mean you cannot win an amazing prize.
How to Enter
Two THP Forum Members are heading to Indiana to get fit by into the new Cobra Darkspeed driver along with a premium UST Mamiya Shaft. Then they will be playing as a twosome against Danny and myself. Those forum members are @Nappy and @jayronmillz10
Step 1: Post below and include the following information.
Who will win the match? To make things even, we will be giving up 9 strokes in match play.
What is your current driver?
What shaft is in your current driver?
What is your favorite UST Mamiya driver shaft?
Step 2: Follow along with this Live Update Thread and see if you were right and if you are the lucky winner. The updates will kick off below beginning with travel.
The Prize
We have a killer THP Prize Pack filled with amazing goodies going out to the lucky winner of the contest! This might even have a brand new club head in it.
If you like our weekly contests, make sure you share them across the social media platforms below and check back each day for more new exclusive THP content.
Entries must be submitted by Monday April 1st at 11:59pm ET. The winner will be chosen randomly from those that guessed right. Please remember only one entry per person.

Let’s recap my first ever THP experience:
Rookie, Ohio, Overpacker, Winn grip lover (even though I don’t have winns) but same thing, Lebron hater. Y’all know how to make a guy earn his stripes that’s for sure haha I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this experience and really had no expectations. I thought it would be really cool that I was going to be getting to play a sweet golf course and get a fitted driver and eat some good food with some cool dudes.
As I was getting ready to leave for this trip and I was posting my overpacked car with THP green wrap, I had no idea what I was setting myself up for haha

In case you didn’t get to see this part here is my
Overpacked car LOL
The trip down was like driving through 2 high wind rain storms and could have been more desirable lol but I arrived Tuesday afternoon to a beautiful 70 degrees and sun in Newburgh, IN. Danny texted me and told me to come asap and I was 2 hours and 30 minutes away. Literally the longest drive of my life.

Upon arriving to Victoria National it’s very interesting to get there and meet these people that you only have had interaction with online. @DannyLe @JB and @Nappy were all in the cottage and I met them and talked a bit before the part that I was excited most for, getting fit.
Getting Fit: You guys have sworn by Danny on this site and I’ll be honest I thought some of you were blowing smoke because I didn’t possible see how I could gain more than maybe 10 more yards. I just wanted to be a little more straight off of the tee and maybe get to 300- on the roll. Danny started me out with a shaft and the LS head and I hit some good balls but my spin was around 1800-1900 consistently and he wanted to get some more.

He then proceeded to put me into the Darkspeed X and then I started to change out some shafts. One shaft I swung felt really light and like I had to ease up on it to time it up so I didn’t pull/ hook it which is my miss. He then put a shaft on that I started to swing and he told me swing hard and let it rip. So I did and I was just crushing drive after drive. It was like a cheat code unlocked and I found the fit for me. My mind went away from being able to swing hard to knowing I was in the right shaft and I could turn into it and unload. I absolutely couldn’t believe I was swinging a lady flex shaft but I didn’t even care because if you saw the results I did you wouldn’t either.

Danny was explaining that the shaft flex allowed the club head to lag behind which then squared up the head to the ball.

Dormie Network is absolutely another animal. Everything was top notch and first class. The service, the food, and the facilities. All of the food was better than most fine dining restaurants you go to and even though there were only 2 groups they treated us especially well. Food pics below ??

The matches didn’t go the way we wanted them too but JB and Danny have ridiculous chemistry and play so well off of each other. Good luck to everyone else this year against them ha. I still had a ton of fun playing with @Nappy and we played much better on day 2 with probably worse conditions.
It’s easy to see why THP is successful and is the way it is because being around JB you are not surprised it has success the way it does. JB is THP through and through. A ton of respect for what he’s built here.
Had a ton of fun with @Nappy and those of you that know him know he is cool calm and collected and always helped bring me along or gives me tips for posting on THP. Couldn’t have had a better teammate for my first experience! Glad to have made a lifelong friend!
And to THP, I feel like one of you now. You guys harassed me and made fun of me and encouraged me and cheered for me and there is something about going through that to feel like you belong. You guys honestly make it as fun for the event as you tell us we do for you following. Seriously it makes a huge difference in these events and even though it’s hard to respond in the middle of the event you guys are awesome. I honestly appreciate you all so much!
Thank you for the experience of a lifetime THP. I’ll keep this to one post @Nappy ?

The Apex UW is one of the best clubs ever made and would come in handy at Victoria National.

I used my older Apex UW 21 degree sooooo many times while there. Not because I needed (probably did..short hitter) to but because it was the only club I trusted to hit well. I could use a full swing or take a bit off of it and swing easy. Plus with the wind in our face it got used on a lot of Par 3’s. It’s so so good. Now I just need to get a 19 degree in the newer version.

Just seeing this now and LOL. I greatly enjoyed my time at Victoria National but I went through some spots in Indiana that made me wish I had updated my will before the trip.

Recap Post (3 of 4): The Golf and the Golf Course, Holy **** Victoria National
Let’s get this out of the way. This event was cold. We lucked out the best we could with the weather we had. It was sort of amazing we got to play golf at all the way the forecast was looking initially. I was beginning to think that Indiana, me and golf were a bad combination. I played in the 2016 Cleveland Golf Short Game Shootout in Carmel IN and that was partially rained out as well. The only time we truly said – OK we’re not playing was Tuesday afternoon when @jayronmillz10 and I played 6 or 7 holes on our own and the wind made it impossible to enjoy. I think both days I was wearing long underwear, pants and about 3 jackets. I wore cold/rain gloves both days. Stocking caps and hand warmers from the pro shop were a must. Made it a bit difficult to swing fully, but we all had the same issue.
Day One (Wednesday in the AM) I didn’t have my best stuff. We pulled driver as much as possible (obviously) and my initial thoughts remained the same. Cobra Darkspeed is forgiving, the LinQ Blue extra stiff shaft felt amazing. I still wasn’t hitting all kinds of fairways, but I was feeling good about the combination and still extremely optimistic. The juggernaut of @JB and @DannyLe was out in full force. It was a little hard not fully knowing the course and playing it for the first time. We didn’t exactly know the lay of the land, but my oh my….Victoria National is freaking gorgeous.. JB and I discussed it multiple times, the Hideaway is like every hole being postcard worthy. And it’s very good, but from an architectural standpoint and the way Victoria National uses the landscape…It’s kind of a perfect golf course. Every single tee box had me standing there and doing a 360 to just look around. And yeah the course is hard, very hard, but it’s so much damn fun at the same time. Pin placements were evil and the wind wasn’t helping, but the course just surprised the heck out of me. If I had access to it every day, I’d never get sick of playing it, but it’d likely be super expensive (lost balls galore).

After losing on Hole 16 to Team Smash Burger No Cheese we went back to have some lunch in the clubhouse. We finished that and then left Danny/JB at the cottage to attend to some work. @jayronmillz10 and myself went back out to play in the afternoon, but 6 holes in and the wind had picked up considerably more. On hole 5, the signature par 3 that’s almost like an island green we had 198 and almost needed to pull driver to have any chance with the wind blowing back in our face. We headed back to the cottage as quitters, but needing a much needed break from the conditions. Jay Jay Ron took the world’s longest nap, we almost feared for his well being. I just spent time chatting with JB and Danny about anything and everything. When Jaron woke back up we were ready to go eat possibly the world’s greatest meal back at the clubhouse and also got some time to burn more of my money at the pro shop.

Day Two – We teed off at like 38 degrees (colder than the day before), but for my money the wind was less and it almost felt warmer at times (until the back 9 anyhow). My putter got hot…really hot. I’ve always felt like a pretty good putter, but it’s pretty validating to go to a THP event at a not-so-easy course and have your playing partners comment on it as well. Jayron and I were playing super well on the front 9. I wasn’t driving the cover off the ball, but I was keeping it in play and that gave him a chance to really go for it. We had a lot of short iron shots into the greens and again I’m putting pretty good. We didn’t make it easy on them and I believe we ended the front at 2 under.
The back 9 was a different story. It got colder, and windier, and mistakes were made. Team JewAssMe clawed their way back. Butts were clenched (for multitudes of reasons) and we found ourselves down one by the time we got to the Gauntlet. Not the ideal situation. But we weren’t dead yet. Got it back to No Blood and headed into 18 with a chance to win the round, but in typical fashion I put two straight shots into the water. Jaron lost one as well. Team FrescaRanchWaterWithTajin had once again claimed Victory over the good guys.

The Course – I said it back during the event and I will say it again. If there are any events at Victoria National in the future, I will sign up. And anyone reading this recap should sign up as well, without hesitation.. It will easily be one of the greatest experiences you’ll ever have in golf. If it’s a Shaft Up and you get to spend time with @DannyLe and @JB, I’d sign up twice as fast. The course is difficult, but it is more fun than you can imagine while having your butt handed to you.

The Clubhouse/The Food – The staff at Victoria National is personable and helpful in more ways than I ever expected. When you’re looking for a certain putter cover, but the woman at the desk says “let me get your information and I’ll send you one when they get in…” I mean those are the little things that make a difference. Everywhere I went there were people wanting to help make sure I had the best time I could possibly have. And my goodness, the tenderloin and cheesy potatoes we had Wednesday evening at the clubhouse. Imagine the most mouth watering and perfectly cooked meat on the planet. The best wedge salad I think I’d ever had (draped in candied pepper bacon) and a cheesecake that was the icing on the cake. @DannyLe managed to get me to drink a Spicy Margarita at dinner. And he doesn’t know this yet but that was the first margarita I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t typically do mixed drinks outside of an occasional Captain and Coke. But it’s Shaft Up and I was on an epic golf trip, I was out there to try something new.. And Danny was there to help lead me on in questionable decisions. :ROFLMAO:

:ROFLMAO:

I may have missed it but what shaft is in your UW?

As of this moment it’s got a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue 65 Stiff Shaft in it. That will be changing very soon to something UST, something white and something a bit heavier. I think it’s going to be a really really good combination.

I know one thing…we see all of you following along and it means more than you know.
Shaft Up was a bucket list event for me and it’s exceeded all expectations on night one. We haven’t even played a single hole of golf. Dannys patience with my garbage swing and spending the extra time with me to try and make the most of what I’ve got. Its been amazing and I can’t thank him enough.
