It’s the first trip of the THP Event series called Shaft Up with UST Mamiya in 2024. For those that have missed the previous years, Shaft Up is a series of 3 events on the THP Forum where lucky forum members win a full fitting, golf at amazing course, new equipment and oh yeah, it is all 100% free including airfare. This year trip 1 is being held at the beautiful Victoria National Golf Club and it is going to be an amazing follow.
Shaft Up #1 is coming next week and just because you will not be at Victoria National with Danny Le from UST Mamiya, and myself, does not mean you cannot win an amazing prize.
How to Enter
Two THP Forum Members are heading to Indiana to get fit by into the new Cobra Darkspeed driver along with a premium UST Mamiya Shaft. Then they will be playing as a twosome against Danny and myself. Those forum members are @Nappy and @jayronmillz10
Step 1: Post below and include the following information.
Who will win the match? To make things even, we will be giving up 9 strokes in match play.
What is your current driver?
What shaft is in your current driver?
What is your favorite UST Mamiya driver shaft?
Step 2: Follow along with this Live Update Thread and see if you were right and if you are the lucky winner. The updates will kick off below beginning with travel.
The Prize
We have a killer THP Prize Pack filled with amazing goodies going out to the lucky winner of the contest! This might even have a brand new club head in it.
If you like our weekly contests, make sure you share them across the social media platforms below and check back each day for more new exclusive THP content.
Entries must be submitted by Monday April 1st at 11:59pm ET. The winner will be chosen randomly from those that guessed right. Please remember only one entry per person.
When you realize you’re swinging an X Flex now. ?
Better keep them muscles firing.

Were there any other headcovers? Maybe a pic if you could, please?
There wasn’t a lot honestly. Most the covers looked similar to the hybrid/fairway cover that JB and I bought. A handful with just the Dormie flag. When I talked to the woman working there it sounded like maybe they’d have more later in the season. Pic below isn’t that clear but the baskets under the tables are really all they had. And the SWAG king covers at the register…which I never did ask if they were available.

But in all seriousness it’s amazing the confidence you get as well knowing you have the right club in your hand. I used to have to try to not rip into as much so I didn’t pull/ hook the ball and with this setup I can rip into it no problem.

Recap Post 4 of 4: The People, The Forum and What’s Next (This is it, I promise…maybe)
As far as THP events go I’ve been to some good ones. A Grandaddy (in 2021) and now a Shaft Up?!? Pretty blessed as far as epic golf experiences go. As for THP in general? Saying I’ve been lucky would be an understatement.. JB and chatted about some of the stuff I’ve won and tested since 2010. He’s convinced I’ll have a full garage sim by the end of year (I won a Rapsodo on THP’s Instagram in the past few months). I’m sure I’ll be divorced if it ever happens. Not that I don’t want it to happen – the sim, not the divorce, LOL. It’s not lost on me how lucky I’ve been and I appreciate absolutely all of it. Stay involved in the forum and the threads and good things can happen, I’m a really good example of that.
For my money the thing that makes the events what they are, are the people. You can include all the fancy food, mind-blowing equipment and off-the-charts swag you want – if the people aren’t into the event, it doesn’t quite live up to the hype. Shaft Up was on my THP bucket list for one reason. The small group and the one on one time I’d get to spend with people in the industry. I felt from the second I walked into that cottage door, that they wanted to make sure I had the best experience ever.. That feeling continued the entire time I was there. It’s the difference, to me, from THP to every other golf site on the planet. They care, they’re invested in me and feeling that is something special.
So we gotta start with my Shamble Partner, The Butter Churning Ball Destroyer @jayronmillz10

Leading up the events you always kind of wonder what your playing partners will be like. Will they be cool? Will they annoy the hell out of you? Will they just come for the stuff and then you never hear from them again? From the moment I talked to Jaron via Zoom the first time, to the text messages every other day, to the phone calls while he was driving around for work I knew this guy got it. He was asking me all the right questions (and I hope I answered them right). He was excited about the event and he couldn’t stop talking about what he might gain from working with Danny and JB. I think we could all see from the driving range numbers that he gained quite a bit. I also gained another lifelong friend in golf and for that I’m super thankful. The Lebron Hating Half of Amiish Cheedar is a talker and I’m more reserved. On paper we might not seem like a good fit, but I actually appreciate that more because they help start conversations I wouldn’t even think of. Yeah he loves Ohio State (WTF is a Buckeye, anyway? A nut? Really a nut?) but he’s also a genuinely good dude who loves his family and loves golf. He’s absolutely jacked about what happened at Shaft Up and he’s going to surprise some people with his game going forward. He was so supportive on the course when I was shanking shots and missing fairways and he was the first person to congratulate me on the good swings, better drives and good putting. He’s everything you want in a golf partner. Without a doubt in my mind we’ll find a way to tee it up again in the future. He’s a good addition to THP and I’m glad to call him a friend.

Next Up is @JB. This was my 3rd time meeting the 2nd most powerful person at THP ? We’d met at the 2016 Shortgame Shootout and the 2021 Grandaddy, but never really had a chance to get to know each other. So I was excited to see what I’d get from JB, and from the moment I walked in I knew. We talked a lot about THP events (past, present and future), we talked a lot about the industry, we talked about equipment, we talked a lot about our love of sports and cardboard. He is to blame when my wife gets upset about the new cards I have coming (someone for the love of God get me off Ebay :censored: ).. We talked about my life, his life, life in general, my passion for the fire department and everything else in between. We talked about it all and I really enjoyed every single second of it. Pretty cool to get a little peek behind the curtain at THP and learn why he loves it so much. Every event is special to him and in turn that makes it special for the people who are in it. Also the guy can golf. He talks a lot of negative of his game, but a lot of it is just talk. He drives the ball well, his 64 degree wedge should be illegal (it looks like so much fun and has me pondering, again) and I think maybe Fresca really does give him super powers. His **** talking and banter on the course kept us all laughing in the frigid temps. He looked at a picture of a bad swing and accurately guessed the shaft and head I’d be fit into….who does that? He’s a great person on and off the golf course, and I’d love the chance to golf with him again down the road. I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen, Shaft Up or otherwise. He also influenced many good and bad decisions, like convincing me I needed a different putter even though mine was working pretty well. Appreciate all you’ve done for me THP-wise JB. I know you don’t like the compliments all that much, but you deserve them.

Last but definitely not least the Shaft Wizard of UST, @DannyLe
A few of my Grandaddy brothers had told me tales of Danny and I like others questioned that it would really be that good. I knew my answer long before I even stepped foot on Victoria National. All the correspondence prior to the event to help us and make sure we made the most of Shaft Up. From sending DART shafts for my irons and putting an ALL IN shaft in my putter for me, all because finding a decent flight from Wisconsin to Indiana is evidently impossible. I knew what I was getting when I walked into the door and that was someone in the industry who absolutely cared about me getting better at golf. I was afraid of wasting his time on the golf course or range and all he cared about was making sure I saw improvement, even if it wasn’t immediate. The time I got to spend each day talking with Danny about shaft profiles and what works for my swing, all of it is knowledge that’s going to only help me in all my future golf decisions. Understanding why my swing is the way it is and what I can do to improve it. It’s all things he’s gone through and things he’s worked on – so he knew exactly what to say and do to get me in the right headspace.

He also is a stick. A legitimate stick. He was concerned about @jayronmillz10 and his distance gains at the fitting, but Danny kept up with him more times than not. He hit the flagstick frequently on approach or chip shots… he is just tons of fun on the golf course. He challenged me to have drinks (spicy margaritas aren’t that bad), made me laugh/smile constantly and was more encouraging than I ever imagined. He genuinely cares about the people in this event, and that’s why Shaft Up is so amazing. Another person I hope I get to meet again in person and will take every opportunity I have to make that happen.

I know this for sure. I’m all UST Maymiya from now on. I’m currently searching for shafts for my 3 wood and UW. I just have so much confidence in this company and I can’t wait to review these clubs/shafts for you all going forward. I know something else. I drove away, down Victoria National Lane feeling like I had three new friends in my corner. I got to experience Golf Nirvana for a second time and it was better than anything I could imagine.
And to the forum: You guys were absolutely amazing. There were so many times I’d be getting lost in the moment and think….oh sh** I gotta post something and I’d see you guys carrying the thread on and responding to everything/anything. I hope we did it right and I hope you enjoyed it as much as possible from afar. We felt the love, I definitely know that.
What’s next?
I went into this event about as down as a person could be about my driver game. I had toyed with the idea of just hitting 3 wood from here on out. Instead I’m more optimistic about my entire golf game than I’ve been in a very long time. Dropping spin and adding launch? That’s exactly what I was looking for – with a combo I never would’ve dreamed of. Yeah I have things to work on, but I’m excited to work on them now. And I can already see the improvement. The tips and drill suggestions they gave me and the encouragement on how close i am… For all of that I’m eternally grateful to JB and Danny Le for their optimism and helping me see something I had lost sight of. I’m going to get better and just saying that is a big step for me. It only gets better from here.
This is the stuff I’m gonna remember most. The conversations, the laughs and entire event meant the world to me. So much fun. Thanks @jayronmillz10, @JB and @DannyLe – I’m eternally grateful! Anyone wanna go back and do it again?

I’ll get there eventually.

I bought this awhile back but I got the Duo Adapter and then another percussion instrument as a set. Looks like you might have to buy them separately now.

A few of my Grandaddy brothers had told me tales of Danny and I like others questioned that it would really be that good. I knew my answer long before I even stepped foot on Victoria National. All the correspondence prior to the event to help us and make sure we made the most of Shaft Up.
Absolutely it does.
From the fitting two things stuck out. His patience and his attention to detail. I was probably not easy from a fitting standpoint because my swing mechanics are jacked up. Definitely not as easy as @jayronmillz10 LOL. But both he and JB had an idea going into the fitting from outside data and a picture. And he worked with me to understand what I was doing and what I was going to get from the club/shaft combo in my hand. Another thing that surprised me is when he told me that I’m generating good speed. I was completely under the impression that I was slower than most, but he disagreed. I just have swing flaws that sort of negate the speed I was already getting and I could increase distance once I address those flaws.
One piece of advice I’m going to implement into my game – paying attention to my shoulders. I didn’t have them square at address so it was causing me to come across my body and leave everything open at impact. Also to try smothering the ball, I tend to try and help it without just sort of imagining a tennis forehand and letting the loft do the work. We had a lot of time before J J Ron showed up so he really spent the time to give me some tips that are going to only help me going forward. I’m sitting in my basement right now doing fake swings w/o a club trying to mimic them. Also really going to focus on getting through the ball and feeling myself get through, almost going to far and swinging like Scott Scheffler or something. I felt like towards the end of the 2nd round with them I was starting to see and do that better.
It was an amazing time and I can’t wait to see my progress this year. @DannyLe is amazing and I can’t wait for more people to get to meet him this year!

This experience gives you insight into the mind of @DannyLe What was one thing that surprised you from a fitting standpoint or one piece of advice that you will take with you and implement into your game?
Great questions!
I would say the one thing that surprised me from a fitting standpoint is that I actually knew very little about my swing and I always thought I needed to adjust my swing to a shaft instead of vice Versa. Timing is probably the most important aspect and I realized and I developed a bad habit of trying to compensate my pull/hook. Now Danny says swing hard and through and the shaft is perfect when I do so.
One thing to take away that I have never really thought that much about is where I am aiming off of the tee. Danny told me I hit mostly every ball straight if I would just aim correctly I would be hitting where I want it to go. Amazing how such a small thing can make a huge difference. So that is what I’ll be working on in the foreseeable future!
Love the recap from @Nappy and @jayronmillz10
Taking lots of notes

Go in without bias of what club and shaft you will hit and let Danny do his thing!

Don’t use Winn Grips. LOL
Like J J Ron said, just go in with an open mind and soak it all in. It’s going to be awesome. And Arbor Links looks pretty OK… 🙂
I’m a little slower on the following these days but this past week of following along was a blast. Whodathunk 310+ and being fit into an L flex shaft? And @Nappy if JB and Danny say you’ll find those 30 yards I’m a believer. Shaft Up for me was the gift that kept giving. As I spent more time with my fitted combo the results kept improving. And the initial jump was not tiny either. Can’t wait to hear about your upcoming progress.

I am very curious for the guys, had you been playing your normal drivers on the course the past two days, how different would the experience have been? Would it have put you into areas that were more difficult to navigate than the new driver’s results?
So sorry that I’m just seeing this, but it wouldve made everything more difficult for me because I was playing the wrong head for me and was swinging it extremely poor. I’m very happy we had the new sticks the entire time.

@Nappy and @jayronmillz10, y’all put up a good fight in some insanely difficult conditions.
What were your best couple of drives this morning?
Probably my best was on #9. I had a 210 yard shot into the green and had us in perfect shape for it.

We’re not all bad…

At this point, does he have to change his username to Ohio?
its either going to be Ohio (i think already taken) or Jay Jay Ron

Used my yeti yesterday. Was sad to think it’s over already

But is it? You get a brand new weapon for this season that will remind you of it every time you pull it out of the bag! And if you talk about the shafts and talk golf and stay present, maybe you go back. And you’ll have a much more vested interest in the next Shaft Ups as well. It’s never fully over!
Let us know how many shafts were tried and how quick Danny was to change them out and dial everything in.
I swung 3 shafts and only changed setups about 5 times but one time was to confirm he liked the setup i ended up with. In all probably about 25 minutes

And thank goodness it never is fully over! Been telling everyone about it so far. Everyone can’t seem to believe what shaft I’m in which is a great talking point

I have made it back to THP HQ.
Some things I learned.
Im not a good sleeper, and because of that, have come to the root of my issues on day 2 of THP Experiences. I need to work on getting that accomplished.
I met my first person that identifies as a state. Jay Jay Ron identifies as Ohio.
Nappy and I share a like for cardboard.
Team Jewamese is 1-0 in 2024 and we plan on going undefeated.
You guys following along and posting made the event so much more fun than I could have ever imagined.
2024 is going to be the year of change for me and golf. Im driving the ball well, but also working on the swing overall. I will have some downsides, but pretty excited where it takes me.

If we can get Day One JB on Day Two… Look out.

We couldn’t believe it either, but it’s pretty freaking hard to argue with the numbers you were getting from it!
