“It’s time to silence your inner naysayer and unleash your inner shotmaker.”
It is crystal clear that Cleveland Golf is done sitting back and letting things happen, because a catchline like the one above is anything but introspective. No, it is a look you in the eyes while they take your lunch money kind of statement.
But you know what? It’s about time, because when it comes to the CBX lineups of wedges from Cleveland Golf, that is exactly what people should be doing. Get out of your own way and get after it knowing you have a club which is designed specifically for golfers just like you. So, with today’s unveiling of the new CBX Full-Face 2 wedges, Cleveland Golf believes it’s time to get after it.
2023 Cleveland CBX Full-Face 2 Wedges
You want to start an internet argument with “traditionalists”, if you can’t go with a loft discussion, then bring up full face grooves. Frankly, the fact that it remains such a polarizing thing for so many is fascinating, especially when the reasoning makes perfect sense for us mortals who prefer to use all the surface area on our wedges. Good news, the CBX Full-Face 2 is the largest clubface the company has ever put into a CBX wedge.
In fact, there is 13% more striking area than with the original RTX Full-Face and nearly 7% compared to the original CBX Full-Face. When it comes to amateur golfers who can have variable consistency, that is one heck of an increase. Much of the size is made possible by the high-toe shaping that the Full-Face 2 is utilizing, but Cleveland is making it crystal clear that they spent a tremendous amount of time ensuring that the look at setup won’t be too much for golfers. A large part of that is thanks to a lot of focus on the topline to hosel transition.
ZipCore is alive and well with the Full-Face 2. Also, the removal of heavy steel in the hosel, and instead utilizing a light-but-strong low-density dampening material, has proven successful for Cleveland Golf since its introduction. With that, the Full-Face 2 it is working in tandem with the Hollow Cavity that sits below the wedges Gelback dampening TPU to not only align the CG of the design horizontally, but it also tunes performance vertically as well. Internal testing done by Cleveland Golf shows 7% heel/toe and 13% high/low MOI improvements on strikes compared to the original.
But wait! There’s more ZIP! In fact, there is a lot more, as the face of the CBX Full-Face 2’s are packed with technology as well, in fact, it is the same technology they are utilizing in their flagship RTX6 wedges. First, there is UltiZip which are a specialized combination of sharper (11%), deeper (7.3%), and more tightly spaced (7.2%) grooves that work to not just cut through debris but funnel it away while maximizing bite off the face (7.2% more). Not to mention, the Full-Face 2 also have 2 more grooves per face.
Next is HydraZip. If you have played in the rain or the morning dew, then you know the havoc moisture can play on spin, HydraZip is Cleveland Golf’s answer to that. This is a dynamic face blast to create textures which maximize the friction and consistency of spin regardless of the condition. On top of that, there is angled laser milling that optimizes friction even more. Since golfers use certain lofts in different ways, Cleveland also uses different texture blasts and laser patterns in the 50-52 versus the 54-60.
The CBX Full-Face 2 wedges also have a new sole shape which should excite those who found that the original didn’t allow them the manipulation/versatility that they desired. First, the lower lofts (50-52) have more bounce through a Full Sole shaping while the higher ones (54-60) have a C-Shaped Sole which claims more refined heel/toe relief. The bigger change, however, is in the new Bounce Chamfer. For those who don’t know, chamfer is essentially a transitional edge, in this case it is at the leading edge of the wedges. According to Cleveland, this plays a notable impact on how the wedge gets through the turf without digging and adds notable performance improvements of interaction on touch and pressed shots.
The Details
The CBX Full-Face 2 wedges will be available in 50/52 Full Grind as well as 54/56/58/60 C-Shaped and hit stores 2/3/2023 with a price of $169.99. Standard shaft options will be the True Temper DG Spinner 115 Tour Issue (steel) or Project X Catalyst 80 Spinner (graphite) with Lamkin Crossline grips. That said, as always Cleveland has a plethora of custom shaft/grip options and yes, custom paint-fill will be available on these as well.
Bold looks good on Cleveland Golf, but are the changes to the new CBX Full-Face 2 wedges enough to get you to step outside the box of perpetuated tradition and try a wedge with forgiveness? Delve into the conversation in the comments below or on the THP Community and let your opinion be heard!

I usually am not one to be able to spin the ball alot on pitches around the green. Today on a par 5 I was short of the green about 20 yards and used my 60 deg Full Face 2 to pitch and knocked it up about 5 feet from the pin the ball bounced once stopped and rolled to the right just missed going in for a birdie, stopping right at the lip. The guys I was with looked shocked too. In the years I have been golfing with them they had not seen that before. Out of the sand on another Par 5 I hit it to about 6 feet and then proceeded to miss the birdie putt but these are so damn easy to hit around the greens!

Love to hear it! Have you had many situations where you used them for a full shot yet?

These are by far the easiest wedges to hit that I have ever had in my bag. I have been missing towards the toe constantly and still get the ball to do what I want.

I did have one about 50 yards away but I had the wind behind me and flew past the hole just off the green. My only issue is I never had a 52, 56 and 60 degree wedge in my bag but its a good issue because I am trying a variety of shots with these clubs and with some practice I think I’ll get the hang of it. One bad shot with the 60 deg today was my fault. Par3 I hit pin high but just to left of flag and was severly shortsided. I tried a flop with the 60 deg (probably the wrong shot there) and flopped it way over the pin and 2 putted for bogey. But even there I am having fun trying these shots.
I got a couple good shots out of mine yesterday. I’m excited to see how this performs as I get more into the season and can start giving my 52* a good swing from 70-80 out.
Out of the sand and close around the green the 60 degree full face has been idiot proof even for me. It’s the same issue for me having the 60, 56 and 52 degree I have more options around the green than I am used to. Just need to pick the right club for the right shot but it is fun practicing.
The 52* has been serving me well greenside and with full swings. It’s been great from about 90 yards and I’ve been trying to dial in distances closer in. I didn’t think I was going to use it geeenside as much as I have been but it’s been performing well on tighter lies.

I’ve never been good from sand but these wedges make it no longer a prison sentence for me. Not really confident yet but the dread is gone.

I haven’t had much success w/ full swings yet. This is much more due to my swing rt now than anything so I’m looking forward to getting that figured out. 80-100 out used to be my fav shot w/ full wedges.
Got out at twilight tonight and really got to use the wedges. My full face 52* is becoming my all-around go-to wedge. I usually have a favorite wedge in my bag that I trust a little more than the rest. The 52* might be it for me. You can open it and add some loft or play it square and get some check up chips with it. The sole is proving to be my favorite thru the sand at the moment.
Had an excellent sand shot today. 85 yards out. Made sold contact and it check up and rolled back a little towards the hole. Made my only birdie of the round.

Didn’t get the picture before I hit. Probably would have jinxed it.

Setup with the ball further back in my stance. Focused on contact and only contact. Aimed to hit front 1/4 of the ball. My main miss at the moment is fat, so it’s a scary shot for me.

That’s a fact… These full face wedges absolutely inspire confidence though.
Trying a variety of shots with my 60 and 56 degree Cleveland Full Face2 wedges. Recently been working on chipping around the green with toe down shaft straight up with a putter swing and I am chipping it close but still a work in progress. I used to have the shaft way to far forward and would get the occasional chunk. The 1 thing about these wedges is they do inspire confidence (esp in a higher HCP) to try just about any shot around the green.

I’ve only ever played that type of shot in an 8 or 9 iron. I’ll have to give it a try next time out.

Here’s a great video on that method, minus the intentional toe-down thing. It’s a great way to chip the ball.

The Full Face 2 60 and 56 deg were great around the green today and probably saved me from some higher scores. Used the 60 while in sandtrap about 10 yards from hole and had to land it on the fringe because of slope of green. Ball rolled out and hit the pin and stopped for kick in Par. Another sand shot from a greater distance I used the 56 deg and it went past the pin but stopped but for a long sand shot I was happy. All in all very happy with them out of the sand and around the green.
Anyone know if Cleveland will offer a dark finish in these ?
I’ve never been able to hit the bounce, skip, check shots until now. I love these wedges.
Got to use the 52 a few times tonight. 2 sand, 1 pitch, and 1 full swing.
Sand shots did not go well. Pitch was ok. 50 yards to 30 feet. Full swing was 100 yards out to 10 feet.
The sole on these is very forgiving and acts similar to the ZX4 v sole.
Not one shot in bunker today but still was able to use my 60 and 56 deg wedge in a variety of ways. Getting better at chipping toe down around the green and whether face wide open or closed pitches were on target either from tight fairway lies or from the rough. Not as much opportunity with 52 deg wedge lately but all these wedges are really easy to use and check up nicely on the green.
17th hole today I pulled off a shot with the 60 deg FF2 that was probably my shot of the day. I pulled my 8 iron to almost pin high but approx 30 yards left. I was about 10 feet above the green with a nature area and sand trap to get over and water on the other side . I opened the face all the way and flopped it over the hazards landing the ball about 4 feet from hole and rolling about 6 foot past. Love that Full Face!
I can’t get them in the bag. The Edison wedges I was chosen to test have been SOOO good.

I had the pleasure of witnessing this shot. It was harder than it even sounds. The green wasn’t even visible to Steve.
If there are any doubts about these wedges not being versatile enough or too chunky to really open up, you may want to reconsider.
Cbx wedges are the best and more and more people need to try them I’m a believer since day one they came out I can hit all kinds of shots that I couldn’t before with a wedge feel confidence trust means so much

You are 100% correct on the confidence these inspire. Just feel like you cant miss.
I have the CBX Full Face 56° and 60° wedges and I love them. They’re stupid easy to hit. For me the score lines all the way across that face
was confidence inspiring.
Can anyone find these in stores?
My local chain, Foxy Golf has everything. Even more lesser known brands like Tour Edge, XXIO etc. but not a single CBX Full Face 2 to be had in either store.Plenty of CBX full face1, new Gen CBX etc.
Same with galaxy.
I have four CBX wedges I purchased three years ago. When it’s time to get new wedges I will get them from Cleveland.

Completely agree. They perform around the greens as well as any other wedge, but the forgiveness on full shots gives a ton of confidence.
Good and bad with the 52* today. Chipped in my first with the new wedges. Birdie on a down hill lie above the green. Also stuck quite a few close. Should have had another birdie on 18 but missed the putt.
Here I was bragging about confidence on full swings, and it abandoned me. Thinned a few and fatted one. Just wasn’t focused. Led to a triple and a double.
I absolutely love my CBX2 (non FullFace), but I lost it recently and plan to move to these new CBX Zipcore FullFace.
CBX wedges in general are probably the best choice for 80% of the golfers
You need to get dialed in tho, as they are so tolerant but also so powerful, the ball bounce harder off the face than with a blade wedge (kind of like game improvement irons vs players irons). Once it’s done you have a weapon that do everything with a crazy easiness.
I personaly play players irons, but use these wedges, because game improvement irons are too “hot” and gaping is a huge issue. With those type of “game improvement” wedges, no such thing as gaping, it’s all about you own distance control.
Anyone know if Cleveland will offer a dark finish in these ?
Not that I am aware of ( CBX FF2s).
I love these Full Face 2 and how they set up behind the ball. I have no issues getting out of sand with these either. My issue is myself and my lousy chipping/pitching technique. I really will be concentrating on this aspect of my game and try to find something that works for me. Just leaving too many shots short lately.
My usual chip around the greens is with the 48* and I try to play a bump and run. I’ve made it a point to try the 52 with medium length chips and to attempt to fly it closer to the hole. I was coming up short on most of the shots.
Had 2 chances the other night and reminded myself to swing down and thru to use the bounce. It’s amazing what a wedge can do when you use it as intended. Both attempts hit close to the hole and stopped within 3 feet. The bounce and sole on the Full Face is great on getting thru the ball if you remember to keep the speed up.
Been working on full swings with the 52* trying to set it up as my 100 yard club. Wasn’t getting the best results, but it was close enough to use.
Yesterday had 2 chances from 100ish. Both from the rough. Range finder had the first at 101 and the ballmark ended up 4 feet left of hole. Would have dunked it if it had been online. Second was online and ball rolled to 7 feet behind the hole. Missed the birdie putt, though.
So the 52* is my 100 yard club and I don’t see that changing if I keep getting these results.
Have been working on my pitching and chipping lately and saw some nice results around the green. 60* and 56* in particular. 60* with a side hill lie and a bunker to get over and I was able to open up face and and land on green to save par. 56* was very good chipping around green and didn’t leave any way short as I had been doing recently. Hopefully my short game is coming around!
Anyone game the 60* CBX 2 Full Face? Our Galaxy and Local shop finally got these in I noticed. I really liked my Full Face CBX 56 and 60 but got rid of them recently. I am really liking my Ping Glide 4.0 56* for partial pitches and chips but wasn’t too keen on the 60* E (eye sole grind) so I sold it. So now am in the market for a 60*. I was thinking the Glide 4.0 Wide sole to match my 56* but thought I should throw this one into the mix as well. It would mostly be used for flops where I need height and for short sided chips. Maybe the occasional short sided bunker shot too.
Does this one work well on flops with the larger head?

I have the 54* & 58*. The 58* is my go to for most shots around the green. I have no problem opening the face and hitting a little flop if needed. Full face gives all the confidence in the world too.. you probably know this already from having the first CBX.

Nice… you will love it. Can’t wait to hear your feedback in here. I have golf league today so I will certainly be using my 58*.
Had a real good day with the 52, 56 and 60 degree full face wedges today. Had 2 sandy saves thanks to the 60 degree and pitching/chipping with the 56 and 52 degree was probably the best this year after a little adjustment with ball placement.
Had 3 green side up & downs for par last night @ league w/ my 58*. Such a good wedge for me to chip with.
Solid stopping power on an up and down from 103!.

The 52* has been my best wedge with a full swing recently. My distance gains have shown up on the wedges as well. I was hitting the 52* to about 105, but that has ticked up to around 115 in my past few rounds.
Spend some time practicing bunker shots and the bounce on the 52* really seemed to help. Wasn’t digging and was easier than normal to get the ball up and out.
The 52* Full Face 2 has been the best all around wedge of the 3 I chose. I chose 3 different wedges for some reason. But the Full-Face 2 works for the most scenarios.
I love using this club for full swings. Plenty of forgiveness with the club face and the sole. If I need to layup to a certain distance, I try to make it so I can use the 52*. At the moment that distance is around 110-115 yards.
Around the greens is where the 52* shows its versatility. It could be because it’s the middle loft of my wedges so it can do everything well, but I think it has to do with the features of the wedge. The full-face grooves. The Zipcore providing the great feel and helping forgiveness. The laser grooves and the larger face. I think that combines to make a wedge that can do anything. I use it for bump-n-runs, standard pitch shots, bunker shots, and I can open it up a bit for a flop shot if the situation is right. The sole really helps out of the bunker and I use this wedge for any bunker shot that has some room to work with. A higher loft with the same sole would be perfect for greenside bunkers.
This is my workhorse wedge and even though it might not be my favorite in terms of looks or feel, I find myself using a lot.
