“It’s time to silence your inner naysayer and unleash your inner shotmaker.”
It is crystal clear that Cleveland Golf is done sitting back and letting things happen, because a catchline like the one above is anything but introspective. No, it is a look you in the eyes while they take your lunch money kind of statement.
But you know what? It’s about time, because when it comes to the CBX lineups of wedges from Cleveland Golf, that is exactly what people should be doing. Get out of your own way and get after it knowing you have a club which is designed specifically for golfers just like you. So, with today’s unveiling of the new CBX Full-Face 2 wedges, Cleveland Golf believes it’s time to get after it.
2023 Cleveland CBX Full-Face 2 Wedges
You want to start an internet argument with “traditionalists”, if you can’t go with a loft discussion, then bring up full face grooves. Frankly, the fact that it remains such a polarizing thing for so many is fascinating, especially when the reasoning makes perfect sense for us mortals who prefer to use all the surface area on our wedges. Good news, the CBX Full-Face 2 is the largest clubface the company has ever put into a CBX wedge.
In fact, there is 13% more striking area than with the original RTX Full-Face and nearly 7% compared to the original CBX Full-Face. When it comes to amateur golfers who can have variable consistency, that is one heck of an increase. Much of the size is made possible by the high-toe shaping that the Full-Face 2 is utilizing, but Cleveland is making it crystal clear that they spent a tremendous amount of time ensuring that the look at setup won’t be too much for golfers. A large part of that is thanks to a lot of focus on the topline to hosel transition.
ZipCore is alive and well with the Full-Face 2. Also, the removal of heavy steel in the hosel, and instead utilizing a light-but-strong low-density dampening material, has proven successful for Cleveland Golf since its introduction. With that, the Full-Face 2 it is working in tandem with the Hollow Cavity that sits below the wedges Gelback dampening TPU to not only align the CG of the design horizontally, but it also tunes performance vertically as well. Internal testing done by Cleveland Golf shows 7% heel/toe and 13% high/low MOI improvements on strikes compared to the original.
But wait! There’s more ZIP! In fact, there is a lot more, as the face of the CBX Full-Face 2’s are packed with technology as well, in fact, it is the same technology they are utilizing in their flagship RTX6 wedges. First, there is UltiZip which are a specialized combination of sharper (11%), deeper (7.3%), and more tightly spaced (7.2%) grooves that work to not just cut through debris but funnel it away while maximizing bite off the face (7.2% more). Not to mention, the Full-Face 2 also have 2 more grooves per face.
Next is HydraZip. If you have played in the rain or the morning dew, then you know the havoc moisture can play on spin, HydraZip is Cleveland Golf’s answer to that. This is a dynamic face blast to create textures which maximize the friction and consistency of spin regardless of the condition. On top of that, there is angled laser milling that optimizes friction even more. Since golfers use certain lofts in different ways, Cleveland also uses different texture blasts and laser patterns in the 50-52 versus the 54-60.
The CBX Full-Face 2 wedges also have a new sole shape which should excite those who found that the original didn’t allow them the manipulation/versatility that they desired. First, the lower lofts (50-52) have more bounce through a Full Sole shaping while the higher ones (54-60) have a C-Shaped Sole which claims more refined heel/toe relief. The bigger change, however, is in the new Bounce Chamfer. For those who don’t know, chamfer is essentially a transitional edge, in this case it is at the leading edge of the wedges. According to Cleveland, this plays a notable impact on how the wedge gets through the turf without digging and adds notable performance improvements of interaction on touch and pressed shots.
The Details
The CBX Full-Face 2 wedges will be available in 50/52 Full Grind as well as 54/56/58/60 C-Shaped and hit stores 2/3/2023 with a price of $169.99. Standard shaft options will be the True Temper DG Spinner 115 Tour Issue (steel) or Project X Catalyst 80 Spinner (graphite) with Lamkin Crossline grips. That said, as always Cleveland has a plethora of custom shaft/grip options and yes, custom paint-fill will be available on these as well.
Bold looks good on Cleveland Golf, but are the changes to the new CBX Full-Face 2 wedges enough to get you to step outside the box of perpetuated tradition and try a wedge with forgiveness? Delve into the conversation in the comments below or on the THP Community and let your opinion be heard!
I’m not typically a full face mill kind of guy, but I am thrilled to see them add the option, as well as a grind option.
That’s great to see.
I love Cleveland wedges and wanna like it and I probably should like it, but the face messes with me for some reason.
Definitely want to hit one though.
I have gamed the Gen 1 Full faces for a while now. Would be curious to see these in hand on how they compare size wise.
To my eye the first gen seemed pretty in line with normal high toe type wedges. Sounds like they went to Micky D’a and Supersized that happy meal 🙂
Not opposed to large wedges. Too bad I just bought Mizzy E21 wedges. doh.
The 58 deg if that grind gives me the warm and fuzzies may be the one for me this year.
I may also do it in the SW slot as I like the idea of a more forgiving wedge this year and think I want to experience the hydrazip over the standard CBX ZipCore. Will need to see the soles in hand to determine if I go 52 with the full sole or the 54.
Had a chance to hold these in hand and get a feel for the size.
Here are a couple pics next to the gen 1 full face and also a compare to a Mizuno ES21 wedge (black head)

I should blend these into MB’s this year and break the internet again ?

Just talking about the 46-50 degree range here, but would you lean towards a standard face there or still go full face?

I really enjoy the full face look, so I’d probably stick with that if given the option, but that’s a tough one

To my eye, yes they looked a bit larger but to me that is a good thing as I don’t mind a larger looking wedge. I game a Sure Out 64* which looks like a basket on the stick. It’s not that large but I would say it falls between the Sure Out and the Full Face gen 1 size wise.
I really like seeing more companies go to the full face grooves. It just makes so much sense.
Nice write up. These look really good. I have a budding romance with a CBX Zipcore 56 and this is making so much sense in the 60.
I was at my club today and got my hands on the new Cleveland stuff briefly on the SIM as one of our pros is a Cleveland guy. Beautiful stuff! I ordered two of the RTX6 wedges and set up time tomorrow afternoon as they have the Cleveland rep coming in for a demo day. Here’s the full face.

Spent a little time in the store with these. They were giving me some pretty consistent carry numbers. They do present as a big wedge at address which I wasn’t a big fan of but can get over that if the carry numbers hold. Over a couple sets of three shots, this wedge was around 6-8 yds front to back dispersion whereas the RTX was more 10 yards or so.

That’s a pretty solid difference when you think about how much easier a putt is when it’s 12 feet closer.
What lofts were you working with?

I faced this same choice last year and went CBX for the xtra forgiveness. I got the 58 to replace my 60 and that club is $$$$ out of the trap, Worth every penny!
Really love the full face grooves on the new models.

There is a ton of awesome tech packed into these wedges. I never have used a full face wedge but am certainly not opposed to giving it a try. When making up my Srixon/Cleveland full bag in the other thread, I admittedly just defaulted to RTX 6. If it come down to actually placing an order, I believe I need to give these my full attention though, especially given the fact that the Catalyst shaft is offered as stock on these and an upcharge on RTX 6.

Excellent. I like the V sole on the non-full-face version, but at the same time I like the concept of the HydraZip. Our GG is currently undergoing some sort of remodel, so I don’t have a way to see them in person. Highly appreciated!

Will do.
I will say I hit a few little chips and open face shots and thought there was enough relief to where I could game it. The RTX Zipcore had a bit more, to be sure, but I also don’t get too tricky with my wedge game.

I’d probably end up using these almost exclusively for pitches and full swings, with the occasional bump/run and long bunker shot.
I really like full face wedges out of the sand
I am extremely intrigued by these wedges but I find them horribly ugly. The back of club design to be more 2019 Cleveland than 2023 Cleveland, in the same way that the Smart Sole 3 and Smart Sole 4 are different. Does that affect their performance, no, but they sure would not look great in my bag.
Video analysis of how the RTX6 and CBX work in wet conditions at the 9 to 12 minute mark. Looks like ti works rather well
I hit my 58° for the first time and our conditions were quite wet after 4 days of ice storms. I thought it spun a lot and will have to
adjust on how far I need to hit it. Didn’t see any run out on pitches 40 to 65 yards that I hit yesterday, Just hit, bounce and stop:love:

Thanks for doing that. First thing I notice is the CBX2FF has what almost looks like a V sole on it. That’s a good thing.
I just picked up the new CBX2 Full Face 56* and 60* coming from the 2022 CBX Zipcore.
The sole is narrower and the heel has less bounce than the center of the club.
All lofts come with a 12* bounce which I was a little concerned about the 60* on tight lies although I have a steep angle.
Going out tomorrow so we will see how it performs.

I hit this today and really liked it. The demo had it with the catalyst 80 wedge shaft and it felt really good. I only hit a few shots with the 54 degree, and they went the same distance as my current 54 degree with a tad more height and spin. Felt very forgiving. It is rare for me to hit 3 wedges in a row within a yard of each other (trackman)
I have 2 rounds on them so a small sample size but they performed great out of the greenside bunker. Also out of greenside rough was great, I think the thinner sole and full face inspires a lot of confidence and I like them much better than the 2022 model.

Excellent. Appreciate you following up. I’m not 100% sure I’ll go full face, but I do see a CBX or two in my future.
56 and 60 degree being delivered today!
My 54 and 60 are scheduled to arrive tomorrow!
Here is the thread.. for some reason I could not find this last week. I ordered the 54 & 58 and when I hit them last Friday I was blown away. I struggle w/ wedges and these were by far the easiest I have ever hit. Every type of shot I wanted too. I am very hopeful these will save me a couple strokes and get my handicap going ?
Quick pic… love the Orange paint fill.

I feel like I have new toys to play with with these FullFace 2. I used these quite a bit around the green, pitching and also flopping. The 60 degree is super easy to use going over a bunker. I even tried a flop with the 56 degree as I was left of the green about 40 yards with a bunker to go over. It made it over and onto the green but still aways from the hole. Probably too far away for that shot but it was fun trying. Made me wish I tried it with the 52 degree wedge. There will be so many different shots to try with these wedges. The conditions of the bunkers were not ideal. Some very hard while others very soupy. Had no issues getting out of them though.
I just don’t do well with full face wedges…something about the looks of the grooves that my brain doesn’t connect with..IDK
I’ve had my 56* SW for a little over a month now. Really liking it for greenside bunkers and those tough shots over the bunkers.
I usually am not one to be able to spin the ball alot on pitches around the green. Today on a par 5 I was short of the green about 20 yards and used my 60 deg Full Face 2 to pitch and knocked it up about 5 feet from the pin the ball bounced once stopped and rolled to the right just missed going in for a birdie, stopping right at the lip. The guys I was with looked shocked too. In the years I have been golfing with them they had not seen that before. Out of the sand on another Par 5 I hit it to about 6 feet and then proceeded to miss the birdie putt but these are so damn easy to hit around the greens!
