This might be the most exciting metal wood release that we have seen from Mizuno Golf in some time. Sure, the drivers have generated a ton of success and buzz, but the fairways have always been a bit under the radar. That isn’t to say that they haven’t been good, quite the contrary, but they have certainly offered increased spin as opposed to being distance driven. Finally, Mizuno is rounding out their fairway lineup and offering that “players” option with the introduction of the new ST-G Titanium metalwoods.
Mizuno ST-G Titanium Fairway
First thing is first, this release is not one intended to take away from what the other ST Fairway releases from Mizuno bring to the table, rather, this is all about having something for everyone. The decision for Mizuno to create and release a titanium and steel fairway that is absolutely focused on being a low spin and high speed clubhead is an exciting one.
The ST-G is the most compact shape that we have seen from Mizuno when it comes to fairways. It retains the face depth which, in my opinion, has always been a standout trait of other Mizuno offerings while bolding around it a much more nuanced and flowing headshape which keeps a footprint that lets you know there is a specific player to which it is aimed.
Internally, the CORTECH chamber is present with its 3.6g floating weight and TPU design allowing for more flexion than in other similar fairway woods, according to Mizuno. The placement and shaping of that chamber has not only positively expanded the COR area for playability, but it has also been integral to helping reduce the spin.
The SAT-2041 Beta Ti face is, of course, built for speed and has a unique CORTECH design behind it to streamline the spin creation and consistency. The body itself is Titanium (Ti-811) as it met Mizuno’s demand of weight savings without sacrificing strength and durability. The crown is the same Ti-811 material, though it features a waffle structure underneath to maximize the weight savings even more.
The sole is where the action is happening, besides the aforementioned CORTECH Chamber, there is an eighty gram Stainless Steel plate and 8g Stainless Steel screw. Why that much weight so low? Not only has it brought the vertical CG down, but also forward, which again means lower spin and more speed. The ST-G fairways are aimed to be bombers, and that is an exciting addition to Mizuno’s metalwood arsenal.
The Details
The ST-G fairways will be available in 15.0 and 18.0 degree versions with the 15.0 also being available to lefties. As with the drivers, each fairway head also utilizes Mizuno’s Quick Switch adapter that gives a 4-degree range of adjustability and allowing the 3W to play from 13-17 and 5W from 16-20. The standard shaft options are the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX 70 (S/X) and Mitsubishi Chemical Kai’Li Blue 60/70 (R/S).
Release date for the ST-G fairway is 10/5/23 with pre-sale beginning on 9/25/23. Price at retail for this release will come in at $399.95.

This.
This is why I keep a keen eye on the Bay for one of these.
DEEP.
I want the 5W so bad I can’t stand it.
I am still enjoying the ST-G fairway wood. Really easy to hit off the tee or deck. Never had a 5 wood and this slots in the bag nicely. Get plenty of elevation with it to have stopping power!
Max is getting some love from Voshall. Cool tech dive.

I remain very committed to the ST-G 3 wood. I have let 3 woods that I really liked get away from me before. Not this time. I continue to have it set at 14* and shafted with a Graphite Design Tour AD HD 6S shaft. I hit it a few times tonight and Swing Caddy gave me numbers that I believe to be consistent with what I experience out on the course. It remains good off the tee or fairway. For a short time, I thought I might go with a two driver setup, but that would have required pulling this club out of the bag. I just can’t do it.

I hit 3 wood off the tee twice today on the same holes at my home course where I usually hit 3 wood. I couldn’t hope to find a better 3 wood.

I love the ST-G 5 wood. It is so easy to hit. Played it off the tee and deck with no issues. It elevates easily as well. Really makes me ponder a 7 wood.
I was actually really surprised with how easily the ball was able to get up in the air vs the 3 wood I play.

I was surprised with the launch and ball flight of the 3w. For being such a low spin option I thought for sure I’d have problems elevating it. I think the Ventus Blue is such a great matchup with that head and is helping me get it into a great window.

I need to hit the 3 wood. I have an older cobra right now.
According to Shot Scope, my performance average with 3 wood is 271 yards. I am sure that won’t last, but it is kind of shocking to me.

I guess the average Tour pro off the tee box would produce similar numbers to yours. Off a tee relatively little distance difference between driver and 3-wood is a primary reason that I recommend players, especially long hitting players, swing 3-wood from more tee boxes.
Those are kind words. However, people who know me, know that I live in Utah and play at a higher elevation than most, so I definitely don‘t hit it that far at sea level. More likely, the distance would be 250 to 255, but that is still wonderful for me for a 3 wood. The other thing that I would say is that the difference between my 3 wood and driver is 19 yards, based on the Shot Scope data. I would not call that relatively little distance. That is easily a club and a half less club into the green, which makes a huge difference.
Another course where the trouble forces me to use a 3 wood on a couple of holes. I have so much confidence that this club will be in the fairway off the tee, something that I have not felt very often with 3 wood off the tee. The hole below is one that vexes me, because you have to hit it about 260 yards off the tee to give yourself a decent approach, but you only have about 280 yards until you run into a small lake. This 3 wood is the perfect tee club for the hole.

Too bad I three putted the hole, LOL.
Reeeeeeeaaaaaallllllllyyyyyyyy excited that I’m going to get to hit the 5W next week at Briggs.
Gotta figure out what shaft to tip for it, but man I’m pumped to mess with it at both ends of the loft sleeve spectrum.
My biggest question, is does this get a 5W back in the bag? A 7W couldn’t do it long term, but maybe a deep faced 5W like this beast?

The 3w is deadly consistent and long, I’d venture to guess that the 5w is going to be solid for you as well. Does it bump anything you’ve got out? I don’t know where it would slot for you? In place of UW?

Probably, unless it’s just so silly easy and keeps enough distance I’d consider putting it at 16 and playing it like a 4w.
I’m still in complete love with this STG 3W. Some beautiful bombs with it today on a few holes. Hit it off the deck 230 into a par 5 it hit the green but didn’t hold and ended up just off the fringe long.

Well 3W for me is never “easy” I’m usually about one out of every 3 getting a less than ideal strike. However, when I do manage to put a good move on the ball, it goes and goes and goes. It’s pretty sick really when I think about it…
I feel like I’m in complete control of the STG 3 right now. 2 and 3 at my club are both 3w off the tee holes for me. I like to draw it on 2 bc the fairway runs left to right and feeds into the woods, on 3 I like to play a cut because it gives me a good look in from 100.
Executed both to perfection today.

This is the one that has a real shot at my bag. It’s the shape and size I like. Like the front edge look. It will get a chance to compete for the 5W spot.

I don’t know how I haven’t looked through this thread before but I love that super deep face! I’m going to have to go look at this and see how it sets up and hits very soon.
It’s been cold, wet, and windy here. But I’ll take these numbers. On a par 5 I took a double 3 wood. And I love the results. This is a second driver to me and I’m just so happy how easy it is to get these shots up in the air and moving.
Going to have some fun with this….

Enjoy it. I love it so much.
For me, I now keep this in the bag over a 5. I used to be a 5 only. Now I sit with a 3 and a 7. Your distances are different, but this is now a mini driver for me. I’ve got a couple of trickier fairway par 5’s on courses near me, and I end up with this off the tee and then shot 2 as well.
Interested to see your feedback on it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far!

I think it’s still the best looking fairway on the market currently. Curious to hear some feedback on this guy. Only thing, is I wish it was standard at 19*, which would allow me to play a 3hl (4w) without having to close the face too much on the 5w.
I may look at buying a 3 wood at some point. The 5 wood is sooo good.

This one was a lot of fun the last couple days. I didn’t hit it perfect, but I saw enough on the range and a couple of the swings on course to merit a real shot over the UW.
That said, I could see it ending up strong to replace a 3w as well.
Lots and lots of potential.
Why do I like 5w’s?
Things like this. This was a pin at 241 into a par 5, into wind, and I hit the ST-G 5W here

That’s some really nice drop and stop there. I should probably look into a 5w to compliment the STG 3w. There is still an empty spot in the bag as I’m sitting at 13.

I’m really pleased. It hits piss missiles, but I was still able to really elevate this one hitting into a green.

Yep the 3w is a rocket launcher. I’d love to see a little higher ballflight of a 5W in certain situations.

Nice shot sir and I’m glad you finally got your hands on one. Interested to see if it kicks anything out like you had mentioned.

Hahaha, this isn’t the exact angle, it was more a sideways and forward release. But, I’ve done that before with other 5w’s, ball go high haha
In my mind, these play so much like the Sim fairways, which are pretty universally acclaimed as some of the best fairway woods ever released. I don’t know how Mizuno did it, but the 3 wood, turned down to 14* generates ball speeds that would almost rival a mini driver, but yet it obviously is much easier to hit off of the turf. This is an incredibly well designed head and has to be near the head of the class of all of the offerings out there, at least for my swing.
This 5W is bonkers. Absolutely bonkers.

Played yesterday with some of the craziest wind here in Illinois. We were seeing consistent 20+ mph winds with it even worse higher. If your driver went up with a bit of a fade on it, that ball made a right turn. One of the guys I played with used a driver on a par 3 it was so bad.
To your point I did just this. I turned it down a degree and just rocketed that ball. Put my driver back into the bag (need to reshaft as mine has too high of a launch with too light of a weight, even with 3 absolute bombs) and played this off the tee into the wind. And I was hitting about 230-250 off the turf.
This club is permanently in my bag. For a long, long time. A buddy I was playing with went to hit it and just…wanted to trade me his driver for It. It’s that good.

I played like dog do do today. The Mizuno ST G 3 wood is the only club that I hit well and both times, it was dead straight and long.
Downhill a bit. But I played 36 yesterday and I was gassed the second 18 with the driver after the first round. As you can see, tight fairway and I just wanted to make good contact with better control.
Arccos said that it was 277 when you take out the hole being lower than the box. But man, nailed it.
Next hole I did another 300 yard hit with a decline and a run. Then the other guys I was hitting with wanted to hit this club the next 4 holes as well. That’s how good this club is.
Hitting these today…might be an order placed by tonight 😀

We tested, and it beat out my mini driver. HOLY FAST. Absolute seeds coming off of it.
Has been ordered!
Played a semi par 3 today. It has 3 par 4s and I just used this as my driver. (One is 400, the others are like 300 and 325). It is just a mini driver. Off the turf or off an iron tee.
Went to the range after and was hitting some with It. Guy next to me was like “man you’re crushing your driver” and the I showed him the club and his jaw hit the floor. I love it.
I hit the best 3W of my life this morning. I had a decent drive up the left side hugging the tree line on the Par 5 17th hole.
This left me with around 250 to the back pin. But I needed to hit a low bullet draw to get around the tree line. I knew the shot I had to take. Stepped up and hit exactly that shot. It was a rocket that bent 10ft right to avoid the overhang then softly fell 10ft right. It ended up 5y short of the green. That lead to an easy uphill chip and a 2 foot wedge putt. ?
(Never mind Grint’s red line. Actual ballflight is blue line)
