This might be the most exciting metal wood release that we have seen from Mizuno Golf in some time. Sure, the drivers have generated a ton of success and buzz, but the fairways have always been a bit under the radar. That isn’t to say that they haven’t been good, quite the contrary, but they have certainly offered increased spin as opposed to being distance driven. Finally, Mizuno is rounding out their fairway lineup and offering that “players” option with the introduction of the new ST-G Titanium metalwoods.
Mizuno ST-G Titanium Fairway
First thing is first, this release is not one intended to take away from what the other ST Fairway releases from Mizuno bring to the table, rather, this is all about having something for everyone. The decision for Mizuno to create and release a titanium and steel fairway that is absolutely focused on being a low spin and high speed clubhead is an exciting one.
The ST-G is the most compact shape that we have seen from Mizuno when it comes to fairways. It retains the face depth which, in my opinion, has always been a standout trait of other Mizuno offerings while bolding around it a much more nuanced and flowing headshape which keeps a footprint that lets you know there is a specific player to which it is aimed.
Internally, the CORTECH chamber is present with its 3.6g floating weight and TPU design allowing for more flexion than in other similar fairway woods, according to Mizuno. The placement and shaping of that chamber has not only positively expanded the COR area for playability, but it has also been integral to helping reduce the spin.
The SAT-2041 Beta Ti face is, of course, built for speed and has a unique CORTECH design behind it to streamline the spin creation and consistency. The body itself is Titanium (Ti-811) as it met Mizuno’s demand of weight savings without sacrificing strength and durability. The crown is the same Ti-811 material, though it features a waffle structure underneath to maximize the weight savings even more.
The sole is where the action is happening, besides the aforementioned CORTECH Chamber, there is an eighty gram Stainless Steel plate and 8g Stainless Steel screw. Why that much weight so low? Not only has it brought the vertical CG down, but also forward, which again means lower spin and more speed. The ST-G fairways are aimed to be bombers, and that is an exciting addition to Mizuno’s metalwood arsenal.
The Details
The ST-G fairways will be available in 15.0 and 18.0 degree versions with the 15.0 also being available to lefties. As with the drivers, each fairway head also utilizes Mizuno’s Quick Switch adapter that gives a 4-degree range of adjustability and allowing the 3W to play from 13-17 and 5W from 16-20. The standard shaft options are the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX 70 (S/X) and Mitsubishi Chemical Kai’Li Blue 60/70 (R/S).
Release date for the ST-G fairway is 10/5/23 with pre-sale beginning on 9/25/23. Price at retail for this release will come in at $399.95.

Mentioned in the driver thread that I was able to get this out to the course today- full disclosure I am not much for 3W off the tee unless absolutely necessary from a distance perspective- so the purpose of a 3W in the bag for me is going to be the par 5’s without danger.
The course I played today is very wide open, with little to no danger and was perfect for an opportunity to put a few swings on the 3W that I received. Both went exactly where I wanted them, leaving me in a great spot to score on the hole. Playing from the fairway is a novel concept for my golf game and one that I hope to experience a bit more throughout the last few rounds of ’23, and moving into 2024.
Need to hook Arccos up to this for some distances, but it looks to be on par with what I was seeing from my old one. More to come in the next few weeks as I find a couple nicer November days to test the clubs and the winter gloves we received at VC.

Cobra Speedzone- which has been by far my favorite 3W I’ve ever put in a bag. I pulled it out this year as I was experimenting with a 2 driver set up, since as I mentioned 3W is only a par 5 club for me.
I was absolutely murdering this in the store on the launch monitor, but am not having as much success with it outside thus far. It is extremely punishing on toe hits. At least for me, slight toe misses are knuckle balls with no spin. I am really wanting this to work for me. Staying patient…

Funny you mention the toe- I put one way out toe side in my last round, and it hooked but wasn’t as penal as I had thought right after the strike. It was oddly forgiving for how far out I had gotten.

I find the same thing, very punishing on off center. Awesome when nutted.
For some reason I didn’t have this thread in my watched list. Gonna cross post my thoughts from the STG driver thread.

I am getting along incredibly well with STG 230 3w. It’s a freaking rocket launcher. In the video below you can see the very tight dispersion I’m getting with it. I was just driving around the course tonight hitting different shots and had some real beautiful shots with the 3w.

The STG 3 wood is so money. I had 250ish out on the par 5 12th hole. I was sitting pretty in the fairway so I decided to go with Threewood. Traditionally I do not hit Fairway Woods very well off the deck ever. I stepped up and proceeded to rope one on a beautiful piercing trajectory straight at the hole it bounced in front of the green and rolled up to leave a 25 foot eagle putt.
I’ve only made this green in two a handful of times over the past two years. I had good pace on the Eagle putt, but left it just about 2 foot above the hole.
I’m officially in love with this Threewood.
Driver can kick rocks. ? hopefully I’ll start getting along with it when I get a real size shaft.
The sound of the STG 230 3w is immaculate

I have an infatuation with the 5 wood. This is my second 5 wood to have in the bag but it is a beast. Really easy to hit off the deck or tee. Goes far and straight. The traj for it is really good. Looking forward to using this more and more.

I feel the exact same way about Threewood. It’s a Renaissance for me. I haven’t hit good Fairway wood off the deck since before I quit the game for 15 years.
I made my first eagle on hole, one at my club with an incredible three wood approach shot to 8 foot yesterday

That is awesome. Congrats!
I just posted in the STG driver thread that my STG 3 wood is currently outperforming the driver. I played a simulator round yesterday and was consistently hitting a draw down the fairway at ~240/250yds. I don’t know if I’ve ever done this before with a 3 wood but I definitely have never done it consistently. I’m really loving everything about this club from the feel, looks, sound, and performance. Consistency was never part of my game so I’m feeling pretty confident with this club right now.

Stg 3w is such a surprise weapon for me too! And it’s also out performing driver for me as well. I’m pretty sure a lot of that has to do with the shortened driver shaft I’m working with currently.
I’m very happy that 3w is so consistent for me I spent quite a few years only pulling 3w when absolutely necessary and ONLY off the tee. It feel so good to have a reliable 220-230 club OFF THE DECK ?
The 5 wood impressed again. I really think this is going to be a fairway finder for me. So easy to hit off the deck. This is one of my first dabbles in the 5 wood. I feel like I have a lot more confidence with this than a 3 iron currently.

This has replaced a revolving spot in the bag. I have the older version of the Fli Hi 3 iron or the Cobra Fly Z+ hybrid 2-3 in that spot.
I am just waiting for a Mizuno adapter to arrive. I plan to put a Graphite Design shaft in the 3 wood and see if it gives me more consistency. The Hzrdus Green is too stout for me and for some reason, I just don’t get along with Kai’li Blue shafts. I am kind of excited to see what a shaft change does.

It is the same shaft that I have been playing in my Callaway Rogue ST LS 3 wood and it works great for me in that head. I have never had a 3 wood that was too low spin for me, but that’s what I was seeing with this head. The Graphite Design HD is a mid spin shaft, but it is a bit more stout than the Kai’li Blue. I think this will be awesome for me.

I don’t think there is much difference between the Stealth Plus and this club. The weighting, use of titanium, etc. is quite similar. I just really like the looks of this head.
I’ve played enough now since the Victory Cup to know that it’s not a honeymoon period thing this STG 3W is for real.
I can’t believe how much I throughly enjoy hitting this club. Last year 3W was the club I’d do everything I could NOT to hit. Now I’m pulling this 3W out off the tee. I’m going for it on Par 5’s.
Im sold this club is going to be tough to get out of the bag.
Got on TrackMan this evening with the ST-G 3 wood with the new shaft. It was a totally different club for me tonight. I was seeing Smash Factors of 1.49, fantastic efficiency for me with a 3 wood. Balls speeds were at the upper end of the range that I would expect. Spin was up where I want it. I am glad that I stuck with it and tried another shaft.

A lot longer than your UW 17?
A lot longer than your UW 17?
I won’t know for sure until I can get out on the course for a few rounds and get a sample. Based on what I see on TrackMan, I think it will be about 10 to 15 yards longer off the tee. I think it also has the potential to be about that much longer from the fairway as well. However, the UW is much more versatile and a bit easier to flush from slightly poor lies. So, I probably would hit the 17* UW on second shots on par 5s when I don’t think I could reach it with the 3w or when the lie is not ideal.
This is exactly what I have hoped for and these two clubs have the potential to really compliment each other, giving me options to attack par 5s and some versatility off the tee when driver is not the proper choice.
I got out for 9 holes the past two days. I’m still having a hard time believing how much confidence I now have in a 3w. I look for opportunities to hit this STG 3w now and am excited when I have those opportunities. I’m going for the green with it, I’m using it off the tee on a few holes with tight landing areas at my club, it’s just a joy to swing and make contact with. I never thought I’d enjoy any fairway wood as much as I’m enjoying this one.
