This might be the most exciting metal wood release that we have seen from Mizuno Golf in some time. Sure, the drivers have generated a ton of success and buzz, but the fairways have always been a bit under the radar. That isn’t to say that they haven’t been good, quite the contrary, but they have certainly offered increased spin as opposed to being distance driven. Finally, Mizuno is rounding out their fairway lineup and offering that “players” option with the introduction of the new ST-G Titanium metalwoods.
Mizuno ST-G Titanium Fairway
First thing is first, this release is not one intended to take away from what the other ST Fairway releases from Mizuno bring to the table, rather, this is all about having something for everyone. The decision for Mizuno to create and release a titanium and steel fairway that is absolutely focused on being a low spin and high speed clubhead is an exciting one.
The ST-G is the most compact shape that we have seen from Mizuno when it comes to fairways. It retains the face depth which, in my opinion, has always been a standout trait of other Mizuno offerings while bolding around it a much more nuanced and flowing headshape which keeps a footprint that lets you know there is a specific player to which it is aimed.
Internally, the CORTECH chamber is present with its 3.6g floating weight and TPU design allowing for more flexion than in other similar fairway woods, according to Mizuno. The placement and shaping of that chamber has not only positively expanded the COR area for playability, but it has also been integral to helping reduce the spin.
The SAT-2041 Beta Ti face is, of course, built for speed and has a unique CORTECH design behind it to streamline the spin creation and consistency. The body itself is Titanium (Ti-811) as it met Mizuno’s demand of weight savings without sacrificing strength and durability. The crown is the same Ti-811 material, though it features a waffle structure underneath to maximize the weight savings even more.
The sole is where the action is happening, besides the aforementioned CORTECH Chamber, there is an eighty gram Stainless Steel plate and 8g Stainless Steel screw. Why that much weight so low? Not only has it brought the vertical CG down, but also forward, which again means lower spin and more speed. The ST-G fairways are aimed to be bombers, and that is an exciting addition to Mizuno’s metalwood arsenal.
The Details
The ST-G fairways will be available in 15.0 and 18.0 degree versions with the 15.0 also being available to lefties. As with the drivers, each fairway head also utilizes Mizuno’s Quick Switch adapter that gives a 4-degree range of adjustability and allowing the 3W to play from 13-17 and 5W from 16-20. The standard shaft options are the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX 70 (S/X) and Mitsubishi Chemical Kai’Li Blue 60/70 (R/S).
Release date for the ST-G fairway is 10/5/23 with pre-sale beginning on 9/25/23. Price at retail for this release will come in at $399.95.

No, we are in the grip of winter now. I have had it on TrackMan multiple times, though.
I hit the 3 wood again this evening in a sim round and purposefully hit it several times when I normally would hit driver off the tee and when I might hit my UW from the mat. It performed exceptionally well. I saw some ball speeds off the tee that were getting up towards driver ball speeds. It is super easy to hit off the mat. I am becoming extremely confident with it and it seems to be exactly what I need in a 3 wood.

Love everything about this and as I’ve mentioned several times it’s becoming one of my ‘go to’ clubs as well. I’m so happy you are getting along great with yours after the shaft change.
@MSEASU let me try his 5 wood today on the range. I have never tried a Mizuno wood before. First rip with this club was a smoked baby draw. The sound and feel were really nice. I only took a few swings and all were good. I should have tried this on course but just didn’t get around to it. Maybe next Friday I can make that happen.
I hit the longest 5w I’ve ever hit today. This thing is a rocket.

Yes you did lol that was deep!
More work in with the 3 wood over the weekend on TrackMan. Things don’t always translate to the course like they seem to be on TrackMan, but I believe that this will. The club sets up perfectly to the ball for my eye. It feels great to me, although outside it may be a little louder than some other 3 woods, but it is not bothersome to me. The numbers, though, are incredible and it now feels like a club that I am going to have a ton of confidence in when I need to hit a fairway. This may ultimately be the best 3 wood that I have played since the TM Sim titanium that I never should have parted with.
Not a lot has changed here with the ST-G 3 wood. I may love it even more after working on my swing but still, same story. The sound and feel of this club is what I love the most. When you hit the center of the club and make a good swing, you know it immediately. I don’t see myself replacing this club for a very long time.

I honestly don’t feel like I can hit a bad shot with this 3w. Maybe not exactly where I want it every time but never a truly awful shot. It’s so rare to have that kind of confidence in a club. Much less a fairway wood for me.
There are two holes back to back at my club that are always 3w off the tee holes for me.
The first is an uphill shot to a blind fairway that slopes left to right and feeds directly to the forest. The ONLY play is hitting a draw. Thats not my standard shot shape. I used to aim very far left and just pray it didn’t run too far down the slope. Now I have all the confidence in the world to step up and hit a draw with a friggin 3 wood?!?! ? Past 4 times I’ve played I’ve done exactly that to spectacular results.
The next hole is an elevated tee box to a very tight landing area with OB both sides where the fairway runs out at 230 ish. I hit this 3w around 220 fairly consistently. I’ve been waking up and just easily plopping one down near dead center of the landing spot the past 4 times I’ve played.
Both of these holes used to be score card destroying holes for me because I would routinely pump my old 3w out of bounds or top on 50y in front of me.
It’s literally game changing to have a club I’ve got this much confidence in.
Here are the two shots I described above:

I actually would love to hit the 5W, with the same shaft that I have in the 3W. However, I had an extra shaft to throw in the 3W. To purchase the 5W and the upgraded shaft would be a price tag that I could not justify.
Our weather turned balmy and a couple of courses opened. I got out for a round today. This 3w may well be my favorite club in the bag. I hit it off the turf twice on par 5s and once off the tee on a short par 4. All three shots were great. It isn’t that often that you find a club that seems to fit your swing perfectly. This one does for me, for sure.

Turned down to 17, it’s 3w long for me. And I hit 3w well off the deck.
Have I mentioned lately how much I adore this 3w.
#2 is a tight hole that has the fairway sloping right to left and feeding directly to the woods. I never hit driver here. It’s always either a 3w or hybrid.
I’ve played this hole a couple hundred in the past 2 years. Today in wet sloppy conditions with next to zero roll out I hit the STG 3 wood furthest down the fairway I’ve ever been.

I watched this and the 245s were also jaw dropping.
This 3 wood is really entrenching itself in my bag. This is a par 4 that is uphill to the green. There is lots of trouble around the green, so I never hit driver. Instead, I usually hit 3 wood and aim at the left edge of the fairway bunker, trying to draw the ball into the opening, which leaves a little wedge into the green.
Today, it was cold, about 43*. The fairways were wet. I hit my ball and it didn’t draw. No matter, I flew over the fairway bunker. It is one of the best tee shots of my life on this hole and I have played it many times.

There are two parts of my bag that are untouchable, going into 2024. The first is my irons. The second is this 3 wood. Every once in awhile, you find something that fits perfectly. This is one of those clubs. It is a great tee club for those holes where I cannot hit driver. It is also fantastic off of the fairway. Great distance. Easy to elevate. I am so glad that I tried a different shaft in it before deciding that it wasn’t a club for me. we often hear the advice that when you find a great 3 wood, hang onto it. I have made the mistake previously of thinking there would be something better, but not this time.

Which shaft (s) have you had in your ST-G Ti 3-wood?
I started with the stock Kai’li Blue 70. I just couldn’t deliver the head consistently. I don’t know why, but those Kai’li shafts don’t fit me. I threw in a Graphite Design AD HD 60S and it became a completely different club.
Prior to the wifey’s surgery last week I took the bag to Top Golf (rest of the ranges around here are closed) and got a chance to hit the FW and Driver with TG balls. It’s exactly as I had remembered and experienced at the tail end of the season, looooooong. I’ve got my winter swing going right now, so it’s a tad bit all over the place but for the most part I saw a little draw and long into the back net with all but the first few swings here.
FW for me has never been an off the tee option, as I have always tried to have faith in my driver to get me in the fairway or to bomb and gouge the course. I think I’m going to try to change that mindset this year- and remove the 2nd driver from the repertoire.
More to come when I find a simulator that’s not broken all the time!
This 5W vs DARKSPEED 5W is on my mind.
Consider that the smaller head size and shorter shaft of a 3-wood tends to promote better rhythm and tempo swings than does a large head longer shafted driver.
I am not suggesting abandoning the driver is a good idea, but for some players swinging driver only 5 or 6 times per round (instead of from 14 tee boxes ) does help the swing tempo for all the clubs within the bag.
Very very valid points- I’m one who plays two drivers though, my ST-G is the short one playing just slightly longer than a standard 3W, and then my ST-Z plays at the standard length. For me, I’m debating dropping the STZ from the bag entirely just based on how well the STG has performed.

My guess is that the ST-G 5-wood from ground lies will produce awesome distance shots.

Which ST-G driver model do you play? I made a few swings with the ST-G 220 and could not get the ball to carry far enough, so I continue to play my ST-Z 10.5* driver.
Eventually I will get around to trying an ST-X driver or maybe the forthcoming ST MAX, to learn how those models compare to the ST-Z.

I really see the merit in a two driver setup and everyone’s swing is different. For me, though, a couple of these 3 woods are so hot off the face, they almost act as that second driver in the bag. I get that a driver head is so much bigger and has higher MOI, but when set up correctly, I have found the ST-G to be very easy to hit. The added bonus of having another good option off of the turf is huge.

I think they would both be a blast for sure.
I was playing a sim round a few days ago. The hole in question was a 530 yard par 4. I had about 250 to the pin and hit this 3 wood. The shot felt great and the ball stopped about two feet from the hole. This is exactly why I love having a 3 wood that I can hit with confidence from the deck.

Hopefully this new 3-wood will become a good tee box club for me that on my home course I could use on five of the par 4 holes and one of the par 5 holes.

Wait, and this is a sincere question, weren’t you advocating that people should be hitting 3 wood off the tee in another thread and while doing that, you haven’t actually been carrying a 3 wood? That having been said, I hope it works for you. I absolutely love mine. It is one of the very best 3 woods that I have ever owned.
Warmer weather here in Ohio meant I actually got to go hit a range yesterday afternoon. Think I’ve said it already but going to reiterate, my swing has seen a layoff due to the weather and as such I limited myself to 5 swings with the 3W. All 3 went left, but that is 100% the janky swing that I’ve got currently.
Still extremely excited to get this in play for all of ’24 and hope mother nature continues to be kind to us MW folks!

Today I played my second round with the ST-G 400 3-wood. I swung it from 3 tee boxes and 4 fairway lies. Off the tee all three of the shots were solid-square strikes with a medium height trajectory. From the fairway lies all shots went straight with a low trajectory. For the total of 7 shots, I liked the impact sound-feel very much.
Next week when I play this club again, before the round I will probably crank the loft up a degree, from 15* to 16*. Hopefully that change will elevate my fairway shots a little bit but not make the tee box shots too high.
Are you seeing the distances that you would be hoping for, both off the tee and the fairway?
In recent weeks Northern California has had lots of rain, and the courses are saturated, so no bounce and roll. My guess is that once the ground is dry the STG 3-wood shots will produce a bit more bounce and roll for me than a normal 3-wood. For carry distance I’ve seen no increase versus a normal 3-wood, but that is probably because the ST-G was designed for a higher swing speed player than myself.
Rather than distance, the primary reasons I expect to keep this new club in the bag are the pleasing impact sound-feel and the straight-shot-accuracy.
When I purchased mine, it was kind of hit and miss until I put a different shaft in it and the club then came alive for me. It now generates tremendous ball speed, relative to my swing speed. I love the club.
3W did its job on the two shots I used it for today. I can safely rely on this club to be a 220-yard screaming bullet that stays on its line. As long as I aim correctly I know that it’s going to end up 200+ yards directly where the face is pointing. That’s nice to have.
Nuked!!!!
