This might be the most exciting metal wood release that we have seen from Mizuno Golf in some time. Sure, the drivers have generated a ton of success and buzz, but the fairways have always been a bit under the radar. That isn’t to say that they haven’t been good, quite the contrary, but they have certainly offered increased spin as opposed to being distance driven. Finally, Mizuno is rounding out their fairway lineup and offering that “players” option with the introduction of the new ST-G Titanium metalwoods.
Mizuno ST-G Titanium Fairway
First thing is first, this release is not one intended to take away from what the other ST Fairway releases from Mizuno bring to the table, rather, this is all about having something for everyone. The decision for Mizuno to create and release a titanium and steel fairway that is absolutely focused on being a low spin and high speed clubhead is an exciting one.
The ST-G is the most compact shape that we have seen from Mizuno when it comes to fairways. It retains the face depth which, in my opinion, has always been a standout trait of other Mizuno offerings while bolding around it a much more nuanced and flowing headshape which keeps a footprint that lets you know there is a specific player to which it is aimed.
Internally, the CORTECH chamber is present with its 3.6g floating weight and TPU design allowing for more flexion than in other similar fairway woods, according to Mizuno. The placement and shaping of that chamber has not only positively expanded the COR area for playability, but it has also been integral to helping reduce the spin.
The SAT-2041 Beta Ti face is, of course, built for speed and has a unique CORTECH design behind it to streamline the spin creation and consistency. The body itself is Titanium (Ti-811) as it met Mizuno’s demand of weight savings without sacrificing strength and durability. The crown is the same Ti-811 material, though it features a waffle structure underneath to maximize the weight savings even more.
The sole is where the action is happening, besides the aforementioned CORTECH Chamber, there is an eighty gram Stainless Steel plate and 8g Stainless Steel screw. Why that much weight so low? Not only has it brought the vertical CG down, but also forward, which again means lower spin and more speed. The ST-G fairways are aimed to be bombers, and that is an exciting addition to Mizuno’s metalwood arsenal.
The Details
The ST-G fairways will be available in 15.0 and 18.0 degree versions with the 15.0 also being available to lefties. As with the drivers, each fairway head also utilizes Mizuno’s Quick Switch adapter that gives a 4-degree range of adjustability and allowing the 3W to play from 13-17 and 5W from 16-20. The standard shaft options are the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green RDX 70 (S/X) and Mitsubishi Chemical Kai’Li Blue 60/70 (R/S).
Release date for the ST-G fairway is 10/5/23 with pre-sale beginning on 9/25/23. Price at retail for this release will come in at $399.95.
I know everyone’s been excited for the driver, but I actually feel like this is where they’re more likely to make their mark on this release. A lot of people rely on their fairway woods and one that just gets out there kind of commands attention. I’m excited to see and read some people’s reactions to it. They nail looks and shapes just about every time too. Always a looker.
Looks very nice, I’m not the market for it but I can see how these would be great for some people. I think this will be a pretty good release for them.
Adding a low spin fairway option is a HUGE thing for Mizuno. With this, we will get to see them flex their muscles as far as just how much ball speed CORTECH can produce.
This was a surprise for the VC crew in our video conference with Vosh and Walker last week. We learned about them from Vosh and he just kind of decided on the fly that we should get one of these too for Victoria.
I’m intrigued here as I’ve pulled 3w out of the bag this year as I really didn’t use my old one much. I struggle with spin off the tee so 3w was never an option, I’d always just go with an iron. Now I get to put this in the bag and see how well it performs! Looking forward to it!
Those look like some serious launchers

I’m eager to see ball speed potential.
The more I dig deeper on this, the more that I think it is going to be a ball speed monster for those that like a FW wood off the tee.

Did you take any swings with it when you were with the Mizuno crew?

Yeah, some of the things I’ve watched back that up, much lower spin than their other fairways, which is a great option to have imo. Not to mention, we know the heavy weight on the sole works, it’s proven. Plus…ball speeeeeeeed.

One single swing. That was it.
I should get more in coming up when I visit Mizuno HQ in a couple of weeks.
This is very much one I plan on trading in some things at some point to grab and put next to the ??? T head and TSR2+.
Gives me strong vibes of some of the hottest fairways ever.
these look and sound awesome. would definitely like to hit them.
These look fantastic.
My swing is hot garbage right now and not worthy.

I got to see and hit this on Saturday. Looks so very good, great traditional shape and deep face, I love it. It feels really really solid, but unfortunately, I hate how it sounds. Not sure how to really describe it, maybe looked a hollow plastic something or another. I was really disappointed in how it sounded because it felt and looks so so good. Maybe some lead tape or hot melt would help, but was really hoping for a more metallic crispy noise. It’s almost TM sounding, if that makes sense.

Hoping you could elaborate on the sound. Do you mean that it’s on the muted or metallic sounding side?

This is the one that has a real shot at my bag. It’s the shape and size I like. Like the front edge look. It will get a chance to compete for the 5W spot.
I hit the 3 wood tonight. Wow, just wow! This is definitely one of the best 3 woods that I have ever hit. It looks good. It sets up so perfectly to my eye. It was producing fantastic numbers for me and it felt really good, too. This is going in my bag.

Impressive if it beats out the G430LS. I am looking hard at this too.

I returned my G430LS under my 90 day playability. I was coming in on the 90 days. I never got comfortable with it. I had a couple of really good rounds with it, but more often, I had trouble finding the sweet spot. The last two rounds that I played with it, I hit it four times and on three of the shots, I left myself in big trouble, leading to bogies, so I gave up on it. I like the deeper face of this Mizuno. I have always struggled with shallow faced fairway woods. Also, the feel/sound of the Mizuno is far far better than the Ping. Even when I hit the Ping well, I was put off by the sound.
As far as numbers, the two clubs were pretty much identical for me on well struck swings on the launch monitor.
Look.

Yeah pretty appealing. I just finished playing another round with it and it sounds weird (they all kinda do though), but it’s been pretty money from a variety of positions again today. And with a poorly fit shaft. I’m going to put my usual Ventus in it this week if the weather allows.

I don’t know. I mean I don’t think I’d mind it in the end if it performs because it doesn’t hurt me ears, but it’s odd.

Hey, we are not your wife here. You can flat out tell us what happened.
I hit the 3 wood twice today, both times off The tee. The first time, I pushed it right, but was still in decent shape and hit the green for par. The second one was an absolute bullet that hit the fairway and rolled about 5 yards past another guy in our group who hit driver. He was a bit surprised. I think that I may have finally found my 3 wood, after a year long search.

Hit it well. I am not feeling like there is any adjustment at all with this one.
The 5 wood is amazing.

My tees are under repair on this one, so they’re down here with the whites. Never know if it comes through in pics but it’s WAY uphill from here. I had the 3W turned up to try to mimic my 5w as best I could, and it was into a fairly significant breeze. I haven’t seen anything that makes me question the idea that this G fairway gets it out there.

I’ll have more when I get home.
I don’t know how many of these Mizuno will sell, but I am already convinced that this is as good as any fairway wood out there.
This thing feels so hot off the face.
The 3W is sneaky good. While Vic National didn’t provide a lot of opportunities for me to hit this off the deck (only hit 3 times) 2 of the 3 were loooooooong and straight. The 3rd was a horrid swing, that still went extremely long it just went right (very right). I need to get more swings in with this and get some numbers to see what we’re working with here but I’m extremely excited about this weapon in the bag moving forward.
I’ll be going from my ST-Z 3 wood to the ST-Z 230. Wondering how the 230 would compare to the ST-G? The 230 is likely the better choice for me, but curious. The G seems to remind me of the MP-Titanium. I’ve had a lot of vintage fairways, but that one was unbeleivable. Could honestly still be in the bag.
I was wondering how many opportunities VN provided these to be hit. Looks are in line to the shape I prefer.

I got the 5 wood. When I put a good swing on it, high launch and easy to hit. Looks really inviting behind the ball. I think it is going to be easy to hit and stay in the bag for awhile!
I need more time with the 3W on course. My swing has been crap the last two weeks.

I had this in the bag for three rounds and I feel like you that I need more time with it. I hit a few off the toe that were punishing. That being said, I am totally confident that this will be in my bag for a long time.
Last week at the Victory Cup I received the ST-G 3 wood with a loft of 15 degrees. I wasn’t too thrilled with how I hit this club at Victoria National but I think that was solely due to my lack of performance and the difficulty of the course. Tonight after hitting a few balls at the range, the biggest thing that stood out to me is the sound of this club at impact. I’ve always wanted a club that makes that clicking sound and this is it.
This is a big adjustment for me as I’m coming from a hand-me-down Taylormade 3 wood with a flexible shaft. But the look, feel, and sound are all there. I simply think I need more reps with this club and maybe even a lesson as well.
I’m also playing in a simulator league this winter so hopefully I’ll be able to dial this club in and share the data along the way. More to come.

Mentioned in the driver thread that I was able to get this out to the course today- full disclosure I am not much for 3W off the tee unless absolutely necessary from a distance perspective- so the purpose of a 3W in the bag for me is going to be the par 5’s without danger.
The course I played today is very wide open, with little to no danger and was perfect for an opportunity to put a few swings on the 3W that I received. Both went exactly where I wanted them, leaving me in a great spot to score on the hole. Playing from the fairway is a novel concept for my golf game and one that I hope to experience a bit more throughout the last few rounds of ’23, and moving into 2024.
Need to hook Arccos up to this for some distances, but it looks to be on par with what I was seeing from my old one. More to come in the next few weeks as I find a couple nicer November days to test the clubs and the winter gloves we received at VC.
