Introducing the Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedges.
By now you have likely seen the teasers Titleist has used to pull back the curtain on their newest Vokey wedges, the SM10. However, today officially marks when we can provide you with all the details about just what sets the newest creation from the genius mind of Bob Vokey apart from the past.
Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedges
While there is never any shortage of fine tuning that goes into the next Vokey wedge release, this year feels even more focused as there has been a heavy emphasis put on control, feel, and a lower flight. Of course, amidst this there is still ample focus on finding ways to maximize spin, as that is a constant when it comes to wedge design.
With each Vokey release being more than half of the wedges played on Tour this past season, and the most playedwedge since 2004, it has provided Bob Vokey and company with access to feedback from the best players in the world. According to Aaron Dill, Director of Vokey Player Relations:
“The best players in the world know exactly what they want from their wedges. The smallest details matter to them and they are very specific when it comes to describing the improvements they want to see. Their feedback is invaluable. We are constantly learning from them and it’s that constant collaboration which allows us to get even better with each new generation.”
There is certainly a level of pressure when it comes to the newest Vokey Wedge release, but in its first week on the PGA Tour, the SM10 was the most played wedge with twenty players making the switch immediately.
In terms of design, there are six different “tour-proven sole grinds” that will make up the main release of the SM10 (F, S, M, K, T, D) with twenty-five unique loft, bounce, and grind combinations available. This remains an area where Vokey seems to stand above the pack, the emphasis on finding the best setup for each golfer through their defined sole options never ceases to impress.
Bob Vokey and his staff have continued to also push to refine the center of gravity (CG) as much as possible. The SM10 utilizes an optimized progressive CG system based upon loft and its predominant use. In the 46-52 degree wedges the CG has been pushed lower to blend more seamlessly from an iron both in flight and gapping. For the 54-62 degree clubs, the CG is actually higher and more forward in order to lower/flatten ball flight to increase accuracy into greens.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an SM wedge release without the Spin Milled grooves. Titleist is continuing their design process with a scoreline which allows not just more spin, but more consistent spin even as the wedges wear. TX9 grooves are individually cut depending on the loft and finish with the lower lofts (up to 54) being more narrow and deep. The higher lofts utilize wider grooves that are also more shallow.
According to Titleist, we will also see the Vokey SM10’s have a more progressive shape than the SM9, again working to blend into an iron set, but also provide the visuals needed for the shot types each loft range is most used for. The SM10’s will be offered in Tour Chrome, Jet Black, and a new Nickel finish.
The Details
The new SM10 Vokey’s will be available for fitting starting on 2/15/24 and come to full retail on 3/8/24. The wedges will be priced at $189 and be offered from 46 to 62 degrees. As always, there will also be a customization program available through WedgeWorks, including Raw finished SM10’s.
I’ve got a fitting for these on Friday. Can’t wait!
I want some nickel ones.

Me too. 100% going with the nickel.
It’s been a long time since I had a Vokey, but that nickel finish looks really nice. I’ll be interested in seeing these in person.
Man that nickel looks really great. So many options grind wise a fitting would be fun to see whats what in that area. If only THP had a Titleist wedge experience….oh wait!

One thing is already certain, they’ve got that head heavy Vokey feel to them!

Agree with this. The bigger jump visually was from 8 to 9, with 10 being much more of a refinement type thing.
Couldn’t resist getting some swings in, even as I’m working on lot on my move. These are just smooth 50F shots

Hahaha, not bad numbers wise, but yes I’m still pissed at my swing right now haha
SOOOOOOOO thumpy.
I know, I know, but it’s a VERY positive thing when it comes to describing impact sensations with wedges.
Vokeys for me are always that way because they’re SO head heavy feeling. I know that isn’t for everyone, but I’m one who gets on well with it because I feel like it lets me keep some tempo.
I always forget how simple and effective the F grind is in gap and pitching wedges too, tried and true for sure.

Head heavy is also a description that many use for the Milled Grind wedges. Have you swung those recently enough to be able to confirm that the feeling is similar?

Nah, I’m no help there. Last MG wedge I used was the MG2.
To me, Vokey’s have always been some of the heaviest feeling wedges release in and release out.
Also, imo, M grind remains one of the all time greats. ?

I hit a LOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT of shots with these yesterday and as one might suspect…they’re damn good.
They’re Vokey’s. They’re dense. They spin like crazy. The different soles do their job.
But, I really feel like they’re more controlled this time around, flatter without having to work to manipulate the flight that way, but without sacrificing spin. Which, of course, means precision and accuracy potential.
I also know people are ogling the nickel, but Vokey’s satin remains one of the best finishes on any wedge imo.

It’s hard to tell so far, I do still have my 9’s to compare, so I can get on that soon.
Pure feel and visual wise, they’re a little flatter for me into the lob, which I need, but the 50 actually performs better than my 11i right now at reaching a higher apex that I want.

That’s a really great way to compare the 3 models. I loved my 8s, and actually still game newer 8s. The 9s were a really nice improvement on them. I haven’t been able to hit the 10s outside yet, sim only.

Hey @Hawk I think that data above does a pretty good job of showing the progressive CG a bit now that I look over it again, lower and more controlled in the 60, little higher in the 54, then pretty standard to what would play off the 9i and PW for me in the 50.

Yeah, I like that 10ish foot difference at the peak. Its good to see that what I was seeing (with a little flatter into the higher lofts) wasn’t totally crazy.
I found my 9’s so I can do a little comparison tomorrow.

Same, I’ve come to understand how much it actually does help with control for me, so many years of trying to learn to hit it HIGH, only to realize in the bottom of the bag, it isn’t the best thing for me haha
Besides the numbers above (and I will get some pitch, half, and 3/4 numbers for you all too very soon) I do want to again comment on how thumpy they are. Its a very positive thing, no clickiness, just dense feedback. I dig that in a wedge.
Just got fitted and ordered the SM10s. I currently play the SM8s.

Nice post. You just don’t hear about too many wedge fittings.
Regarding the grinds, were you seeing the biggest difference in full or partial swings?

So thats an interesting question and I had a bit of a unique opportunity I should describe.
The short answer is for my 52 full swing mattered more for bounce and grind and 60 more partial, 30 yards and in.
We started on the range with a 52. We have a grass range. After every shot, the fitter cleaned the club. The fitter was looking where I made contact You could also hear the difference between grinds.
Our turf is very tight and you have to pick the ball pretty clean. I could absolutely tell the difference between an 8 and a 12 bounce. The 8 bounce got through the ball much better. The sound was a lot more crisp and you could also see it in the divots.
For the 60, we started with 80 yard shots on the range. A few felt similar. Then we took them out to our short game area. Started at 60 yards in hit about 15 balls, moved to 30, moved to the bunker, to a flop shot and to a really tight tucked shot. The fitter wanted to see the flighting I prefer, how I come into the ball, and how much I open the face in the bunker.
With the 60 moving the S to M grind made a lot of sense. M gave me more versatility and helped me pick the ball cleaner adding more greenside spin/control.
One important thing the fitter caught on was that I need the lie angle down because the way I come into the ball chipping. So we tested this too. Overall there was no trackman or tech but a classic sound, feel, see type fitting. It was great.
I ordered both the 52 and 60 (I dont play a 56).
